Hello!

I am putting together a parts list for a new gaming computer. I have been out of the loop on computer technology since my last build in 2008. So I am studying furiously and trying to catch up, but I suspect I will be missing some information. Any help or critiques will be much appreciated.

- Build is currently just under $1700. Not looking to go any higher- I want to make it work within the current cost or less.
- The purpose for this computer will be gaming.
- Will be using a 1440p 144hz 27 inch G-sync monitor
- I might overclock slightly- but it is not a priority. I am not very knowledgeable about doing this. I suspect this build will run games pretty well until some years from now, at which point I might overclock a bit if its simple enough to do.
- I live in the U.S.A. (Hawaii)
- Will be ordering this computer as soon as I am confident in my parts selection.

Here is my current list:

Thank you!

One more question came to mind. For this build, I currently have DDR4-3000 memory selected. I am not very knowledgeable about ram. What difference might there be by going with this over DDR4-3200? Or is it pretty negligible?

IIRC the only mainstream application where overclocking the RAM helps just a bit is when using the CPUs IGP. But even then it's minor. Given you're using a separate GPU it's a non-issue.

If you really needed additional RAM bandwidth (which you don't for gaming), you'd be looking to get a Xeon or AMD Threadripper/Epyc, which support additional memory channels.

Thank you for the replies.

Upon trying to pull the trigger to order the computer, I have learned that there are no 8600 or 8700 chips in stock! And from what I can tell, for the next 3-5 weeks at least.

So I have a question. If I am too impatient to wait a month or two (wanted to get it all put together a week-ish before xmas), is there a recommended substitute processor for a similar price range?

It seems like 8600k is the best bang for the buck, dunno if there is a substitute?

If you have any good local computer hardware stores would check them. They usually get stock in every week even though not much right now. Saw an 8400 in stock at one MC near me on Sunday, was gone pretty quick. Some 8700K's at some Fry's in TX.

Hard to beat the 8600K for price to performance though.

Agreed with a new build we want to go with an 8600K I would say. Also +1 for the AIO coolers, Newegg has H115i's refurb for $79 plus shipping in the states.
