Its been a while since ive bought a new card so please bare with my newbie-ness.

I currently have an X700 PRO running in my htpc, i really dont like it. It does the job it needs to but its loud and sometimes its VERY loud.

I also have a evga 7900GT in one of my other boxes. I really like evga and would like to stick with them.

So both these cards are older, and i need to trash the x700 and replace it. I dont mind spending a little cash, but not really looking to break the piggy banks.

So i could try to find another 7900GT and SLI it, then get a lower end card to replace the x700.

or i could move the 7900gt to replace the x700 and get 1 or 2 new cards for my main system and use those. this would be mroe expensive of course but would result in better hardware i think.

So my question would be, from EVGA, what card would be good to look at as an upgrade to two 7900GTs in SLI. Either a single card or two in SLI? or would two 7900GTs (256meg) be pretty decent?

move the 7900GT to your htpc and get new hardware for your desktop. what res do you play at? without knowing the specifics (your res, games you intend to play, etc.) i'll make an initial suggesting of 8800GT or 8800GTS. the GTS performs a little better and has a better cooling solution. the GT performs slightly behind the GTS, costs a little less, and uses a single slot cooler. also keep in mind rumors are going around that the 9800GTX and 9800GX2 will be released in feb.

id be playing mostly: WoW, Bioshock, Crysis and CoD once i get around to getting it. Also doing a good amount of video watching.

I think ive kind of narrowed it down.

These seem like they are right around my price range of 200-300ish.

GeForce 8800GTS 320MB ($220 - 20 rebate):

(there would also be a small possability of picking up a second one down the line, but probably not)

or

2x GeForce 8600GTS 256MB (150 each, 300 pair - 60 rebate):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130084

or

2x GeForce 8600GT 512MB (140 each, 280 pair - 40 rebate):

any opinions on those? or any other ideas?

Everyone seems to like the G92 8800GTS, which costs around 300 after rebates, 330-340 before rebates.

This is what I ended up ordering as well.

should i buy the 8800gt right now or should i wait for another 1-2 weeks since i read somewhere that they will be a better bang for the buck card at around the same price of the 8800gt (~$250ish)
