I would like to replace my Alienware Alpha R2 that I've been using as an HTPC and casual gaming on the big screen for almost 10 years. It plays most game alright but over the past year or so it's started to struggle even at low graphic settings. I'd like something that can play all current games at a minimum of medium settings.

I was thinking a mini pc would do the trick but I'm not sure how they compare to the Alpha R2. I've did research but I usually hit a wall. I've consider building a sff entry level gaming rig but I don't think it's possible to build a cheap one. I was looking to spend around $500.

Alpah SPECs:

Core i7-6700T
GTX 960 w/4 GIG ram
16 gig ram

I wouldn't go minipc if you want to play games, even on low. Most are mobile or SoC thingymabobbers.

I would get a low end laptop, but nothing below a 60 series card for Nvidia or whatever the AMD equiv is. The 50 series cards are ass... And I mean 3050, 4050, 5050 for example..
