I'm looking for a new laptop that has a touch build and thin. Although I refuse to get a laptop slower than my current one, except the video card since that's not one of my priorities. I own a Compaq nc6000. I'm looking for either a new or used laptop with my $800 budget. Here are my current laptop specs.

CPU: Intel Pentium M 1.7GHz
HD: Fujitsu 40GB (Don't know the RPM, but it's ATA 100)
Memory: 512MB
Video Card: 9600 Mobile

I assume you mean tough build when you say touch. Take a look for a Lenovo Thinkpad. They're known for their durability. I just got a T400 and am really enjoying it so far.

why not something slower than what you have now...especially for note taking? look into some netbooks if you need a cheap note taker. battery life is excellent (dependng on model of course) and its very portable. weighs a hell of a lot less than my chem book i'll tell you that.

but why would i want slower... Although the Lenovo X41 looks pretty attractive.

because you're using it to take notes? lol

what else were you going to do with it besides internet/music/etc? if that was the only thing, why go more expensive?

but if i'm willing to to spend the money to get something a little snappier why not?

OP, are you planning to ditch your current laptop? If not, why isn't it sufficient for note taking? If you are going for weight because you'll be lugging it around, have you considered one of those EE's?
