I'm looking for a new video card but I want to buy a sound card also and I'm on sort of a small budget. So i was looking at the 9500 (non pro) from new egg for 130 dollars. So I have a couple of questions

How does this card compare to the 9600 and 9700?

and

Is the card worth the 130 dollars?

Thanks in advance. :)

I think that's too much, and maybe why is because there not in high production due to the 9600 replacing the 9500.

Sapphire 9600 Retail at Newegg for $95

The 9600pro and 9500pro ususally performed the same, sometimes the 9500pro winning, but the 9600pro has better DX9. I'd imagine the same with a 9600nonpro compared to a 9500nonpro, but with the 9600nonpro being $35 less, you can't go wrong. Also, don't even look at the SE models, they are really bad.

Also, if you can go a little higher I'd go for this:

Transcend 9600XT retail for $149 at newegg
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-156-015&depa=0

That should be a lot better as it's speed falls between a 9600pro and 9700pro (with the 9700 pro really wining at high resolution and AA combined) So it definatly takes care of a 9500non pro for only $20 more, or $55 over the 9600 price. So if you have a way to pull togethor more cash I'd say it's worth it for a 9600XT in the long run.

The 9600pro is only $10 less, so might as well skip that card since the XT is better for $10 more.

If you want near the best, and a great deal, take a look at this:

Sapphire 9800pro OEM for $212 at newegg
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-268&depa=0 (Fixed the link)

That card has got a lot of attention, and even though it is oem, it's still clocked at the right speed, so it's not crippled if I remember right. Just check out the 157 user reviews at the newegg link I gave. Also, ignore the bulk, I don't think you have to buy it in bulk.

Is there any way to tell if it will? Or is it like oc'ing, luck if the draw kinda thing.

You need to ensure that it has L shaped ram, as this is the same architecture as a 9700, softmodding is a hit or miss affair to enable the other 4 pipelines, you don't end up with a 9700pro as they are 256bit and the 9500np and pro are 128bit ....you do end up with a quick 9500pro which will own a 9600xt in most benchmarks:)
