It looks like my APC "Back-Up 400" battery died a few months ago. I don't want to replace the battery again. Since summer was ending I have just been using a powerstrip with only surge protection, no battery. But summer with its storms will be coming in a few months so I think it would be wise for me to find a new APC. We have VOIP phones, so I need something that will run a cable modem, linksys wrt54g router and this VOIP base unit(its a uniden powermax 5.8ghz) along with computer in my signature and a single LCD monitor.

would work, but I'm not fimilar with that brand of APC. I only really know the APC brand.

I want one that has some kind of battery level indicator like the above one has.
 
Also does anyone know if its ok to plug a powerstrip into one? Because I have a 2 or 3 things that use the transistor power plugs.
 
It looks alot like the "Geek Squad" branded UPS sold at Best Buy.

I've used APC and Belkin branded UPS'. The last couple of Belkin AVR ones I've used have had the battery die in 3-4 years. My newer APC ones are still fine... so far. ;-)

Note that VOIP phones may not work during power outages because the switch box outside your house (Cable) is not guaranteed to be supplied with backup power. You may want to check with your provider. Only the Telco's with non-VOIP traditional phone lines guarantee service even without power.

Also if you have your computer, monitor, cable modem, etc, etc, connected to the UPS, it will only provide power for dozens of minutes, that's not really that long if there's an extended power outage.
