My current setup:

AMD X4 II 965 BE (Stock clocks)
Kingston Hyper X Memory 2x4GB @ 1600Mhz
BFG 550 watt PSU
9600GT
Dark Knight CPU cooler

All in a Thermaltake mid tower case. I just picked up Battlefield 3 for PC. This 9600GT has done a decent job at playing Skyrim and Mass Effect 2 but I know BF3 will kick the crap out of this card at higher settings. I am looking for something around the 150-175 range. I am only pushing a 1680x1050 resolution so I won't need anything extravagant. I will check the For Sale section to see if I can pick anything up cheaper. Since I've been out of the computer game for a while I don't know what to get. Any ideas on what to get?

XFX 6870 for $180 shipped with a $20 mail in rebate. This will shred pretty much anything at 1680x1050 and will handle 1920x1080 with little problem as well so if you ever upgrade your monitor, you wont have to worry about your GPU not being up to snuff.

Should I even bother trying to find a 5870 instead of that card? I've noticed the 5870 beats the 6870 in just about all cases.

Go SLI on some GTX 480s...u can pick em up cheap but you will have to upgrade your psu. I bought 2 GTX 470s for $400 ($200 each) and I can max out battlefield 3 getting around 70-100 fps.

Did you even read his post? He's looking for something 150-175.

I agree the 6870 is about the best new card in that price range, although if you look around you might be able to score a deal on a GTX 560 Ti around there also.

Another vote for a 6870. There are some really good deals right now and even without rebate, I think they hold the crown in the bang for the buck department.

5870 would be an excellent choice, as would the 6870. Can't go wrong either way. Whichever you can find the better deal on IMO.

Good luck finding a 5870. That Bit Coin bullshit has them up over $300 in most places. I was looking for one the other day now that Ive got a Crossfire motherboard but for the money theyre asking, it just aint worth it.

If you can stretch the budget a little more, this XFX 6960 is $240 shipped but has a $20 mail in rebate. It would be basically the same as a 5870. But honestly, at 1680x1050, a 6870 will be plenty of horsepower. Dont get me wrong, its always good to buy as much GPU muscle as you can afford and if you can swing the $240 initial cost, the 6950 is a great way to go. Itll easily tackle anything at 1920x1080 so youre definitely covered if you ever upgrade monitors.

Bitcoins dead. There are deals out there where they are going for $150 or less.

Im sure you can find a used one here and there for that but when I look them up on places like Amazon, theyre pulling up well into the $300's.

For less than that, I could get a pair of 6870's and have virtually the same performance as a pair of 5870's.

Ill keep an eye out in the flea market and such for one though. Hopefully I can catch one at around $150.

Do you guys think I should wait for any price drops? I can't seem to find anything without rebates that I like in my price range.

I saw this, http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=VCD.

But it's mostly refurbished and the warranty sucks. I think I am just going to keep saving up for a GTX 5XX.

6870, 6950 and the 560ti, all great cards and in your $250 range. A 5870 is going to be very hard, (at best) to find these days. If I had to pick, I'd get the 6870 probably.

I wouldn't. I'd get a 6950 instead as its head and shoulders above the 560Ti and the cheaper 6870 is actually a little faster in some games and barely trails in others.

Here's a 6950 for $240 shipped with a $20 mail in rebate. That's $30 more than that 560 but considerably more performance. If you want to spend more than a 6870 then the 6950 is the next card up the horsepower ladder. The GTX560Ti is a dud IMO.

Should I bite on an MSI Twin Frozr 560 TI for $190 shipped?

I got my brother a Zotac GTX 560 for $140 about five (5) months ago and I thought that was a good deal then. Around the same time, I found a GTX 560 Ti version for $170.

The 560 Ti you found for $190 is a decent deal only because it is the MSI Twin Frozr version.

MSI Twin frozer 560Ti's can usually get 1 GHz on the core. Kinda nice to have if you want lightning fast FPS....just sayin ;)

A highly noticeabe and smoother difference compared to my 600MHz core speed of a 260 GTX.

I ended up getting an MSI 6950 Twin Frozr II OC 2GB. I really didn't want to cheap out and regret my decision 2 weeks later. I ended up getting it for $220 used from a member on here. Not the greatest deal but I am glad. It unlocks to 6970 specs and stays stable. It also comes with retail packaging.

I want to thank everyone for their advice/opinion! Definitely helped out a lot with this decision.
