Looking for a new CPU Cooler

I will be uphgrading my system soon and will start to acquire parts this months. One thing I'd like to purchase now is the CPU cooler. I currently have a Thermalright SI-128. While it's awesome and served me well, I know there is better coolers out there today.

I currently have a Q9450, however I'm looking to go Sandy Bridge in Jan/Feb. What high quality air cooler would you recommend? i was thinking the Thermalright Venomous X, however if there are better choices, I'm open to suggestions!

I just picked up two of the Coolermaster Hyper 212 plus's. They are cheap and seem to make it towards the top 20 in most reviews I see. Not sure if they will do a sandbridge machine though. I always figure 1 or 2 degrees difference isn't enough considering how cheap these are going for.
 
Oh and I will be putting it on a Q9550 as soon as I find one for a good price to replace my Q8200
 
If you plan on going 1155 or 2011 socket in the future and want to continue using your current cooler I'd suggest Noctua. They have an excellent habit of handing out free kits that adapt the coolers to the new sockets...not to mention they perform quite admirably. Hell, they just rolled out a bunch of free kits for socket 1155 to current users. Otherwise the Ven-X is pretty unbeatable. :p

This is my opinion also for a average OC. If you want to take it to a extreme level of Oc then the value part gets thrown out. The only problem is. if your going to spend >$100 on a high end air cooler and fans you should look into H2O, IMHO.

Yeah, they also just stated that their currently shipping products are directly compatible with 1155, so no issues there. Of course, it looks like all current 1156 heatsinks will work on 1155, but it's still nice to be sure.
 
Hmmm, after doing some more research, what do you guys think of the Noctua U12 SP vs the Thermalright Archon. I know it's new and there are not many reviews out but most show it comes VERY close to the silver arrow and the HR02, which is on par with the nh-d14.

Opinions?

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look when I get home :). It does seem to be a great cooler though! I wonder if it would benefit from a third-party fan vs stock...? Hard to say since tests are nonexistent at this point.
 
Look for sales on good performers is all I can say. Paid $50 for my Corsair H50 and $10 for my Sunbeam CR-CCT after MIR. Both GREAT coolers at those price points. At MSRP, not so much...
