looking for a network hd case???

im thinking about making my self a case to hold my cable modem and router.... i was thinking about throwing a hard drive in there too... what im looking for is just a case (ive already got the HD) that will hold a normal size drive and have it network'able...

actually those are often refered to as DNAS
direct network attached storage

NAS typically are independent computers\servers with a large array of drives
SAN (Storage Attached Networks) being the other approach
and DAS direct attached storage being anything in or attached to the box your on


the thing about DNAS there isnt a router
that would just be elsewhere on the net

if your still looking for a box to stuff a modem router and a few of those in
then this is still the best forum
personally Id consider a short 1U box like you see for many rackmountable appliances
something with power that can be adapeted for your intended equipment

sorry i get what your saying.... k ill clarify... i am going to make a case to hold my router and my cable modem... and what i wanted to do was also throw a hard drive in there... so i as looking for one of the enclosures that you can put your own hard drive in that has network capability...

what im gonna do is just take it apart same with my router and modem... throw a fan or 2 in it and have a cool little network box

ill probly be making a sketch of it in the next few days to get started on it....

edit: just found this... but i dont want a wireless one due to speeds of it....

If you look, that actually supports transfer over the cabled enet also. Problem with it is that it only supports 2.5" drives. What you'll probably have to end up doing (assuming you don't want to buy one with a drive in it already), is get one of
these and one of these, and hook them together. A bit more flexible that way, anyhow...

the other thing about all the DNAS Im aware of is they are all 10\100
a gigabit DNAS would be sweet
