Looking for a guide for VM templates

I had a good guide that I can't seem to find now on creating VM templates so that once deployed from the template it would be have a new computer name, new sid, vmtools installed, all the vm tweaks setup, etc. I know there was some sysprep stuff and other things in it. Anyone have any good guides/checklists that they go through when making new templates?
 
I have a doc that I use to build my templates, but for the most part Guest Customization is enough, then install tools, disable TCP offload, install updates and shut it down, convert to template. There's more but that's the gist of it at least for Win2k8R2.
 
This is about what I have done as well. I almost treated it like making an image for a WDS server. I have one for our 2k8 r2 servers and It has a partition for the OS and the pagefile. I tried to follow the best practice as much as possible.

QHalo, whats the reason for disabling the TCP offload?
 
What OS? Chef is awesome for doing exactly this on Linux environments. We use it to provision new VMs and quickly re-purpose existing ones.
 
I am specifically looking for Windows 8 and Server 2012. We do a lot of testing in house and having good templates for my QA guys to use and deploy when doing testing saves so much time.
