I need a break from Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 1 & 2.

I'm really craving a good FPS, lots of death and explosions! Two I'm seriously considering are Far Cry 2 ($20.00 on Steam with DLC) and Stalker: Clear Sky ($10 on Steam).

I have Borderlands, but am just not in the mood for it right now. The last FPS I played religiously and loved was CoD 2 lol. I haven't play any of the CoD after 2. How was the recent WW2 CoD?

Any one have some sugestions? Thanks!
 
STALKER CS was an outstanding game :) It's more like an RPG/FPS hybrid than your typical FPS though.

I'm typically not a modern FPS fan, but I feel like this has made me miss some really good games. I'm still stuck on my Battlefield 1942 glory days LOL!
 
COD4, COD:WaW, and MW2 are all excellent games IMO. COD:WaW will satisfy your WW2 preference.

I've got all the Valve games, but have yet to try DoD Source.

I bought MW2 with my new rig to try it out to see what all the hype was about.. I hate how the knife is like the energy sword in Halo 2 and everyone has it o_O
Make the game way to easy as I always find myself just running around knifing everyone.. I think it detracts from the experience.

Just pre-ordered Bad Company 2 for the beta.. Going to try that one tonight.

This is for multiplayer.. Haven't touched the campaign yet (heard it was short, but amazingly good),
 
If you haven't played cod4 you're missing out. Single player is short but awesome, mp is also quite fun.
 
if you have a source game, try some of the free mods

zombie panic source is epic if you find some good servers. (like 5-6 gametypes)

standard deathmatch for hl2, or try some of the modded servers for special gametypes. or try CS zombie mode. building barracades can be really fun and rewarding.
 
Serious Sam HD! I'm having a blast with this one right now - mindless carnage at its best! :D

Also Painkiller is an awesome game, though a little dated now - in case you haven't played it yet.
 
for the love of god don't buy far cry 2.
COD mw2 is a blast, not very realistic, besides looks, but is lots of fun.
left4 dead 1 or 2 are kick ass if you are playing with friends.
quake live as mentioned is fun for sure.
dod source is a bad clone of the original dod, but is fun to pub i guess.
lots of good options.
 
Quakelive is great, its free and competitive. Some crazy good players on there, and you get skill-matched.

You know, some people will complain, and tell you that F.E.A.R. 2 is no good, and that it's been consolized, and other piles of BS. Well, they're right that it has been simplified somewhat, however, it's still a fun visceral experience, with excellent visuals. It tends to pull you in as well. In fact, I think I'm going to start playing it again this evening, now that I'm reminded. The fact that it's simplified may make it the perfect break from the more complex games you've been playing.
