Looking for a good 5.25 LCD

Hi everyone, I've browsed around jab-tech, performance-pcs and frozencpu, and haven't quite found what I've wanted. I'd like something like this matrix orbital at jab-tech I think: here ,but I'd like to display my temps on it, like so:
core1= core2=
core3= core4=
gpu1= gpu2=
chipset?

I know something like this is possible when using lavalys everest program and a logitech g15 keyboard. How would I go about finding the right LCD for the job, and instructions to get it to display this information the way I'd like? Would it be easier to just get a g15 keyboard and hack it apart? (it is less than these bay lcd's, so I would hope these are all more powerful and more configurable....however the links to instructions for the matrix one on jab-tech leads to an old forum post with dead pics for mounting it, I think..)

Any help and recommendations are greatly appreciated

Dont get that one.... seems damn near their full product line is being discontinued. I am currently looking at this new line that is replacing most of them. This is the one I will probably get

Now in speaking with someone from Matrix Orbital they told me you can make your own code to operate this, though I know nothing about it so they also have software made by someone else called LCDC to program the display to do what you want... http://www.lcdc.cc/.

Personally I would prefer to have some type of button control for faster access, rather then having to start up the software. Like if I saw the CPU temps come up and then it moves on to the next screen and I want to go back... much easier to hit a back button, so I posted the question on the LCDC forums to see if I got the button panel.. can I set it up using the software.

Also be aware that you cannot mount the thermal probes under a water block... they are too large. You have to use thermal tape or thermal glue to mount them. Im trying find other non matrix orbital probes and see if they might work and are a lot thinner.

That's a lot of good info, thanks. But I hadn't planned on using temperature probes, rather a software solution such as I mentioned with the g15 keyboard and the everest software. A temperature probe, unless drilled into the IHS of the cpu, will likely tell me nothing for cpu/gpu temps nowadays. The only use I would have for a temp probe would be to drop one into my res to see coolant temp. I Know other models have buttons, but hell if I would know how to wire this all up properly. You would think they would of made an all-in-one package by now, would probably make a lot of sales for people who don't know what they are doing

I see he has plugins for motherboard monitor 5, but nothing too recent, a lot of the plugins are several years old, including that one. Upon further inspection, there is a beta for everest ultimate edition plugin dated march 5th 2007. I will look into this further, if it does what i hope it does, I will be buying me one of these panels!

arnemetis... there is no need to drill holes anywhere. Using thermal tape or thermal glue is going to give you the proper temp for whatever your trying to monitor

....no? measuring the temp of the side of the IHS won't really tell me a worthwhile temp. I think software based is the only way to go, with the best (but not feasable it seems) being it getting temps directly from the bios. On a quad typically two cores are hotter than the other two, and the IHS mounted temp probe would just tell me the temp of the IHS, which will likely represent the temp of the cooler cores (as the hotter cores will likely be making less contact with the IHS). I think a temp probe for me would only hold merit if I decide to drop one inside my resevoir to see coolant temp.

Well I just gave up on this whole issue.. was told you needed programs like Everest to run in the background just to make the LCD display the information. Ummm why on gods green earth do I want to dump close to if not over $200 freakin dollars on something that needs a program to be started up and running all the time in the background to have it displayed on the LCD. Hell I may as well just buy Everest and be done with it then and save myself $165.

I was looking at DigitalDoc 5+, trying to find some more info but it looks like that shows up to 8 temps and no programs required to be running to display the info.

Well the benefit for me is having those temps and stats displayed on something other than my screen. I only have one display, so if I am playing a game, or watching a movie, or anything else that I like to have most of my screen utilized, It would be nice to have all that information visible. Some people like yourself would say this is a waste, but everyone has their tastes. Why watercool when air cooling can keep a processor cool too? Anyway I would love it if there was an lcd that just pulled this information right from the motherboard somehow, but I don't think there is (and I doubt it would be able to pull gpu temps). I think I will go ahead and get this, or one similar. If you find one that better suits your needs, please feel free to fill me and everyone else in!

It all depends on the software used to feed the LCD. If you're looking for a LCD that has an onboard controller that pulls that info directly without software inbetween, you're probably out of luck.
