my poor pathetic heatsink has crapped on the bed, and i'm looking for a heatsink around up to about 70 dollars and i'm so confused by all the mumble and jumble from all the damn companies i just wanted actual users to give me an opinion of a good heatsink to purchase, thanks for your help

btw: i had a thermaltake silentboost, and i never really liked it.. that is what died :rolleyes:

Not sure what AXP you're running there, and what kind of noise you're willing to put up with, but I swear by the Thermaltake Volcano 7+ Copper HSF. Its got a three speed adjustable switch with it, and absolutely cools like mad! :D The other one I would suggest is a Vantec AeroFlow 2, VA4-7245. Copper core, aluminum fins. Those are nice as well, and easier to get one / off than the Volcano 7+'s.

You can get the Volcano's or the Vantec's here on the [H]forums for $20 or so.

Thermalright's SI-97 is what you should be looking at, and then you can only go down from there. I just got mine that I ordered from Jab-tech.com.

I was looking for one that cooled well AND had very low noise, after not being happy with either of those aspects from my Vantec Aeroflo w/TMD fan. After reading about a hundred different reviews of socket A heatsinks...I went with the Thermalright's SI-97, it sure is big, but it sure does work too (from what I have read....I still have to put mine on, I got it today and I am just waiting for the condensation to dry up.... rant/ stupid UPS and Minnesota! /rant). You can't go wrong with Thermalright.

$70!!!!!! :eek:!!!!!!

you could buy a few high quality Socket A HSF with that kind of bank.

The Thermalright and the Zalman are both good choices.
 
lol, i like to overprice situations that way after i get the best i won't have any problems :)

i was looking at the thermalright si-97, and i was wondering what fan you guys would recommend placing on top of it
 
2nded the Jab-tech.com choice. That is where I got my SI-97 and my Panaflo.
 
I have a thermaltake slientboost on my 2500, its cool and its quiet
 
...running a Panaflow 92mm "high output" fan on my Swiftech. I'm very happy with the combo; I'd buy it again. Got my stuff from Heatsink Factory and they were good guys to do business with.

Nice thing about the Swiftech is that it almost fits inside the Intel HS profile. They don't take up much room on the MoBo making them relatively easy to install / live with.

i just wanted to say a big thanks to those of you recommending the si-97, the temps i'm getting with this heatsink are insane for an air-cooling system, a little example, atm i'm at 11.5x200 @ 1.825volts and i am rock solid stable, idle temps hover between 36-38 and load temps rarely exceed 44, and this is at 1.825 volts!! it's so different than the silentboost heatsink i had before where even running at stock voltages and settings would bring about a 54 temp under load, thanks again, i love this thing :D
