Cheap and decent. I want to be able to navigate the mouse cursor with it as well so we can open IE for watching Netflix (no typing necessary as netflix is home paged. Any typing needed can be handled via vnc). I also use XBMC for local movies/music.

Machine is an HP D530, so it's not a specialized case. OS is XP SP3. Line of Sight for IR is possible, but IF can be used as well.

What does [H] recommend?
Thanks in advance.

you can find the harmony 880 on the net for about 160 on newegg.com but if you do some searching you can find it as low as 130. also nice thing about this remote you can set it up so it turns on your dvd player, tv, amp, and then change it to the right a/v input ect.

kinda confusing at first to set up but after a half hour of fiddling around you will get the hang of it.

the harmony is nice, but overkill here i think.

try to find a cheap "presenter mouse" from newegg or wherever. i found a decent one for $30 with a laser pointer a few months ago. won't have a dedicated IE button, but just use a shortcut on the the desktop.

Which is what we do now. From the quick launch to be exact.

Found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826641001
Expensive, you can find presenters with mouse function for much less elsewhere, anywhere between $25-$40 shipped depending. If you have them close by checkout your local Microcenter, Fry's or head over to ebay.

Got mine from ebay, one with a built-in trackball, works good.
