Hey guys, I returned my failed GTX 670 today, and since they had practically no cards in stock I settled on a 7970 Windforce 3x OC 1000mhz version because I had a positive experience with this card already a few weeks ago before getting angry at Eyefinity and selling it.
Well, I got shafted. I got the only one there (only choice really, that or sit on $470 worth of store credit), and its a revision 2.1 voltage locked to the max. I'm not too upset, it will still get to 1150mhz/1550mhz with only the +20% powertune, but the fans are infuriating.
It has the same issue that plagued some of the other windforce cards where the fans are stuck at 50% all the time unless you turn them down with afterburner which results in crashing windows and games. None of the BIOS downloads on the page for that card work, as the F60 version on the card is apparently incompatible with those ones.
Does anyone know of a BIOS in the wild for this card or will I have to try forcing a ghz edition BIOS onto it? I've read a very low success rate with this particular revision and lots of bricker BIOS.
Adding Gigabyte to my list of do-not-buy in the future thanks to their needless voltage locking, my revision 1.0 Windforce card made it all the way to 1200mhz with only a 10mv boost and also had memory voltage control, what a crock.
