Hey guys,

I read through this thread but it became a little heated and I didn't want to take over his thread.

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1822223

I am almost in the same boat, I want to start with a quality 2 channel setup then later I want to add a subwoofer. I was looking at the JBL LSR305s due to price and size. I have some omnimount wall mounts, I will probably use to mount them above everything aimed slightly down at ear level.

Source - Vizio CT15-A1 using premium Spotify/FLAC files/Youtube/HD movies. I listen to everything from Pink Floyd/Three Days Grace/Alan Jackson/Skrillex/Drake etc. I sometimes do enjoy digging into some high SPL and with the various dubstep music I listen too, I enjoy running the lows a few dbs hot...

What subwoofer would you recommend? This will be much later down the road but roughly $350-$450. I was looking at the JBL LSR310s.

Any other setups I should look at? Budget for the 2.0 for now is $350 but I would like to stay under that.

I was in charge of sound at my high school (recent graduate) so I am familiar with XLR/3.5/RCA. We had some powered monitors but they were old and not very good. I actually don't know much about them as I never liked using them. I also had a 5.1 home theater setup with Arx speakers and DIY 18s. The only reason I say this is because I am pretty familiar with audio so I want to avoid any Logitech/Corsair setups.

Also, do you think adding a miniDSP would be worth it? I wouldn't think so considering I don't think I need to worry about EQing to correct room correction since I am so near to the speakers.

Thanks guys

Reciever possibility: http://www.accessories4less.com/mak...3-5.1ch-home-theater-receiver-3d-ready/1.html

Also, check Denon's and Onkyo's own refurb sales.

The speakers will be trickier. I'd look at websites like Onecall, Crutchfield, and other stores for open box and especially clearance sales. Also accessories4less. Try to visit local dealers for listening tests with some of your own favorite materials. There's too many good brands to list. Be sure to get an excellent return policy - nothing is worse than being stuck with something you don't like or eating double shipping fees + a restocking fee.

As for the sub? This.

I actually looked at that receiver earlier. Haha

That looks like a good sub and SVS is a great company.. I could probably look at something from HSU also. I know I can't step into PSA due to price..

If I went with the powered monitors though, I wouldn't need a receiver. If I went with a receiver, I would have the option to expand too 5.1 if I wanted.. Decisions decisions...

If you don't mind running the PC sound in DirectSound there's Equalizer APO (it won't work in WASAPI or ASIO modes):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/

It's free but it's command line driven for PEQ's however there are some GUI's for more traditional Graphic EQing:
http://jiiteepee.tripod.com/eq31gui-2.html

There's also JRiver but it's $50 and you have to play all your media files through it if you want to run their software EQ but I believe it'll work in DirectSound, WASAPI, and ASIO (as long as you have JRiver do all the decoding).

I wouldn't recommend a MiniDSP or PEQ's with Equalizer APO or JRiver without some sort of measurement mic and software like REW. The Graphic EQ GUI for EQ APO would work fine if you just want to tune by ear and taste.
