currently looking for a mb for a i7 860 i just bought.

dont need usb 3.0 or sata 3 but they could be a bonus i guess?

planning to oc to 3.8-4ghz with a corsair h70.

only planning to use one card, could buy a second later for dedicated physics.

was looking at this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130238
looks beastly + tons of accessories. however alot of reviews state they have audio problems and i intend to use onboard sound, ill upgrade later.

$160-190 would be ideal. thanks.

Go with a P55A-UD4P, best board in the price range.

agreed. never had a problem with my Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P. It's the old version without usb3 and sata3.

there was a maximus 3 gene for $100 in fs/ft yesterday, probably gone by now though. i had one for a bit, best board ive ever had. great ocing, onboard x-fi, amazing layout, 2xpcie slots, and it looks great. i went itx so it didnt work out, but i really loved the board.

I would recommend the P7P55D-E PRO

The UD4P does not have t a PLX bridge chip to ensure USB3 and SATA6G throughput. While you are noting you only need 1 Graphics Card and USB3 and SATA6G are not of a large concern at the price point you are getting you might as well get them but also ensure their performance.

Without the PLX if you were to do SLI or Crossfire then the USB3 and especially the SATA6G performance would considerably degraded ( approx 200 mbs ) with new low cost SSD drive like the C300 64GB for only 150 bucks i see this a legitimate concern. Additionally even without going to 2 cards to ensure full throughput you have to manually go into the bios and select turbo mode for either SATA6G or USB3 or you can enable AUTO so it attempts to balance throughput. On the –E PRO no such configuration or adjust is required.

Should you have any other questions let me know?

Please enjoy the rest of your day.

With the UD4P you have the option to run full SATA3/USB3 with x8 PCIe lanes for graphics (which will not bottleneck any card out to date) or run them as SATA2/USB2 and have x16 lanes (only needed for two cards).
The PLX chip is just a bridge chip and still uses PCIe lanes, and is just another marketing point. Anyone who actually NEEDS SATA3/USB3 and more then one video card should know to just get a 1366 platform, as the boards dont cost much more then the top end 1156 boards anyway.

Also, with the PLX chip you still dont get the full 600MB/s, it only goes up to 500MB/s.

I'd recommend the EVGA P55 SLI board, I've been using it for a while now and its extremely stable. OC'ed to 4GHz with only tiny voltage increase for my i7-870.
