I'd like to buy a 2 or 2.1 set of computer speakers, these do not need to be high end and in all honesty won't be used frequently. I was going to say $50 for a price range but if I can get better quality I'll go to $100. My only necessity is that they need to connect to the audio source with a 3.5mm headphone jack so buying a couple bookshelves unfortunately isn't an option, and they cannot be any taller than 10".


Thoughts?

** Edit - Well I've spent the last 3hrs looking at a vast range of speakers and studio monitors ranging from $30 - $120 and I'm still lost. I'm going to give the Creative Inspire T12's a shot, I'll let you all know what I think when the come in.

the t amp /bookshelf speakers isn't a bad suggestion

I have two polk t15 speakers and a t amp ... sounds good

however the speakers would be over your size limits i think... yeah they are right about 11" tall DOH!!
 
Yeah... they are going back, holy shit were they terrible. I wasn't expecting anything amazing but I thought that they'd be better than these that I use on my test station. So, I'm back to where I was minus $10 for shipping. I've honestly never returned an item online before in my 10+ years of online shopping, these are this bad. They did have lots and lots of bass for their size but everything else was muffled and even somewhat crackly at times.
 
maybe you got some defective speakers...look up on youtube for soundsamples just to compare with yours
 
Ive read good things about the Creative Gigaworks 2.0 speakers. $80 at Best Buy. Should have some in the store if you have one near you so you could get a demo and see what you think. Plus if you dont like them, Best Buy has a great exchange policy. 30 days no questions asked and no restocking fee. Theyd probably stick you with one if you were just returning them though.

I just noticed the height requirement. How about the Dayton DTA-1 amp mentioned above and maybe the Pyramid 4080 bookshelf speakers.

I cannot vouch for the Pyramid speakers, but they look like a rebranded JBL Control 1 Pro, which I have and like. The dimensions and specs are very slightly off, but they might be the same product -- for 25% of the price. Regardless, they seem to have decent reviews.

so i am more than willing to contend i spend a total of $20 more (cause PE wants $22~ to ship)

but i just got something similar but in my view better

bestbuy put the polk T15 bookshelf speakers on sale for $49 a pair

then I bought a SMSL SA-S3 25 watts x2 t-amp $39+10 shipping

i love the look of these pieces and I having moved from my old z560 logtiechs to this i couldn't be more pleased with the sound

(i may be a nerd but i love the red pwr light and blue glow of the volume control).


anyways i get banana plug compatibility plus (imho) awesome appearance advantages for my $20 more and super sound quality.







i'd pay $20 more for what I got anyday.
