So I'm new to this, and I was wondering what I should be looking for. Right now I have a 17" flat CRT and if i reaplced it with LCD i would like it to remain at 17" with 1280x1024 res, preferably with DVI since I have such option on my vid card. I will be doing some gaming in addition to work. Keep in mind I am not buying one now, I am just curious to what are good and bad specs. As I understand it, a lower xMS refresh rate is better, along with a higher contrast ratio right? What else should I be looking at?

You can get 19" LCD with the 1280x1024 res if you want, believe me, you'll be glad you did. You also want to be looking at the millisecond rate of both black to white and gray to gray as typical you will find that manufactures will display the "faster" gray to gray at 8ms but then the black to white at around 12-16ms so be mindful.

That being said, though its pricey, this monitor is one of the favorite non-widescreen monitors with excellent 1000:1 contrast, color, fast refresh and quality build

nice but that's steep. I'd probably be looking at something under $300
