i hope it works....

so yeah, its an ocean pc sunlite 1500
touchscreen lcd monitor, with a built in control device, so it might not be touchscreen now that i think of it..
it looks like a 17 inch, but a wide aspect.. not quite 3:4. maybe 7:12 ?? is that one? i should be able to do some cool shit with this though, if it works..

but yeah.. i hope it works.. i took a pic of the connectors on the back.. tehre is one that appears to be a standard ps/2
then there is a black one with 8 pins and a yellow one with 4 pins.

so i just have to figure out what the cords do and hope it works..

i will do some google research on it later, but i gots shit to do.. i won't get around to it until tomorrow after 2pm or so at the soonest... so if someone finds anything in the meantime that would be great..

but i thought i would share..

also, i would like to thank everyone that is buying new lcds out there and giving your old CRTs to the thrift store.. because i got that white monitor for $13 a few days ago, and that black dell 19 for $15 today.. too bad i spent almost $300 on that NEC a few years ago.
oh well.........

edit: that would be a cool screen for a system readout display...cpu use, fan speed maybe have it show winamp stats or somethin too let us know what you come up with

so no one has any ideas? how does this get power? is it possible for it to get all of its required power from a vga signal? there is absolutely no other connectors than the ones pictured.. i tested the mouse, it works.. the ps2 connector has a picture of a mouse on it.. so i figured that much out.. the top button is left click, the bottom is right, and the round thing is the directional control... i assumed the middle one was scroll, like the wheel on a mouse, but it wasn't working.. these are minor things..

this thing retails for $5000.. i guess it is really bright... and i was joking about putting it in my car.. and the more i think about it, the more it seems like a good idea... it is huge for a car though..

i e-mailed "captain jim" at www.a-nautical.com and asked if he could describe the connectors on the "vga cables" he is selling for the oceanpc displays.. and maybe i can just buy one for $25, and if the thing doesn't work return it..

or should i crack the case and possibly figure out how it works? or should i cut the end off of a vga extension cable that i have, and start touching wires until it works.. i probably could fry the thing with this method, but maybe it will work.. any ideas?? i think the safest route for now is the $25 "vga cable" and hopefully it will be the right thing, and i can make a new one if i have to...

but the quicker / cheaper way is the make the best educated guess as to what wires go to what pins and to start touching wires until it works...

edit.. this thing is way to big to put it to waste as a system specs readout display.. it says it is a 15 inch, but it seriously looks like it is 17.. i will probably do something like build a bar when i go back to college and integrate this into the bar so it can control a winamp computer that is connected to a stereo.. and the marine grade quality of it should resist a little beer and smoke... then if it survives all of that i can build it into the wall of a house whenever i am in the position that i can hack holes in the walls of my house.. and it will control something, or be in the kitchen to double and a tv and a media control center, as well and being able to pull up a recipie database or something.. the possibilites are endless...

but i need to get it working..

so sorry to make this so long but here are my questions:

can this thing run off of vga power alone?
should i buy the supposed cord or try to make one?
should i crack open the case and see if maybe a standard vga or some bnc connectors are inside?
if i am to try to make a cable, does anyone have an educated guess as to how the pins would connect?

That's a marine display unit; why would you think it would work on a pc? No chance of that happening.

You may need a cable that converts the signal coming out of it to a standard 15 pin jack if there isn't one. as for running off the VGA line - I don't really know - but would think the backlight on it would require more power than that... you sure nothing's hidden by a rubber panel?

Can you contact the manufacturer? If they won't talk to you as a consumer - try talking to them as a company looking at using their product as part of one of your products.

There is a good chance a bunch of what ever processing was needed for the origianl use resides inside that unit. Besides that, never tell me something is "sealed"..too much of a challange

i really couldn't find info on the company.. just those 2 sites selling it.. i can try looking again.. and there are no rubber panels or anything to hide any cables.. i have a theory that one of the pins in one of the connectors is a +12v for the power... and the rest of the pins are vga related..
