Longevity of 6600GT AGP?

So, how long will this card last me, if I decide to upgrade to it? Is it worth spending extra for a higher-tier card? I don't want newer and better games to come out in the next few months and be forced to drop settings to low and play in 8 by 6. I'm perfectly happy in 10 by 7 with medium. Can I expect this to last me a year or two with good performance?

yap should be ok....if your that worried get a 6800NU with 12 pipes or a 6800GT <for a good price>

What do you call "good" performance? I think getting 2 years out of a 6600GT is reasonable, but your system is really starting to show its age. A 6600GT would probably be a decent pair with an Athlon XP 2600+. Also, you're really going to need an additional 512MB of memory for good performance.

correct me if I'm wrong, but the 6600 AGP is still atleast $200? at that price I would try to scrounge together the extra $50 and get the 6800.

If the 6600 AGP drops to the price of the PCI-X ($130 on pricewatch) thats another story.

There is no 6600 AGP, only a 6600GT AGP. The 6600GT PCI-E cards are going for $179 and up.

And it's PCI-E(xpress), not PCI-X. PCI-X is a 64-bit extension to the classic PCI slot. :p

If 9700s are getting decent HL2 performance then I wouldn't be too worried with an 6600GT

mine plays great at 1600x1200 2xAA/8xAF. :D

The AGP 6600GT ships with 100MHz slower memory though, right? I think it's 500/900 AGP vs 500/1000 PCI-E.
