I'm looking into some remote solutions and I came across LogMeIn.com.
Has anyone used this before?
Is the free version secure enough or is the Pro version better?

Any experience would like to be heard of.

i forgot to add in my original post so i'll do so, can you use logmein with a computer on a windows domain?

LogMeIn is awesome for a free application... I use it quite a bit. Stupid simple to use, and seems to be very secure.

Oh... and I don't know if it works on a domain or not... haven't tried, but I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't. Just download the software on the computer you want to access, and you should be good to go.

Good for a free thing...no worries about changing IP addresses of dynamic dns services, or firewalls, etc. Good for single users, small budget small office users that have little peer to peer networks and no VPN hardware or SBS servers with RWW. Performs quite well.

I run it on my home and work machines. Works great and the price is right. It's especially handy for getting into my Vista machine at work when VNC Server doesn't want to cooperate. I've even used it to assist my brother when he was having PC problems. I walked him through the client setup over the phone and was able to tap right into his PC.

Yep!

I use this for work (external offices) and home.

The wonderful thing is you don't have to screw with firewall settings. So I can actually log in via LogMeIn, and change router settings at the remote office.
Heck, I experimented once one time, the remote office couldn't hit ANYTHING externally, yet LogMeIn still connected me right on through without issue.

Another vote for LogMeIn here. I use it for support of friends and family and a few clients that are too cheap for a VPN. :D

works great, works with computers on domain.

i have actually used a few Hamachi setup in the field for cheaper setups, and everyone likes Logmein Free.

I have been using Logmein for the past 1yr, 6-8hrs a day, and it just works, it is like a way off life:)

RDP is not a secure link, you really have to tunnel it over a secure VPN/Hamachi type link....
RDP is prolly a hair faster.... Logmein works from any computer with web access instantly, not only Windows based machines, In Linux, you could install a VNC client with support for RDP, but that is work.....

I think the exploits against it have only been produced "in a lab"....not aware of real world known exploits of that RDP vuln..think it's some man in the middle attack.

which version do you use?

I'm glad to hear that it works on domains.
So if a computer on your domain is turned on, but logged off, can it still work?

Logmein free will let you use 10 computers tied to one account, I find it to be perfect for my home, I only run it on a few machines, then VNC from my mainbox into the servers and whatnot.....
I am sorry for misprinting, it must now be unlimited computers in Logmein Free, it was limited at one point, if I am correct..... Marley1 says he has tons of machines in it, so I do not believe there is a limit:)

^ Bullshit

I have 300 computers on Logmein Free

AMD - Logmein Free, few of my clients signed up for the Pro version but they needed the remote printing.

I use Logmein Free, Hamachi, Logmein Rescue I like it all.

AMD - u got my PM right?

I use it a lot for Work and Home. I like it because I can use any device (including my WM6 phone) to control my computers. Also they have a client for OS X. That allows me to use a single program for Windows and Mac systems. Works great.

I read this post while at school and I was playing around with it after I went and looked at the site.

allows for monitoring of ALL details of your PC, it's quick and very simple to setup on someone else's computer.

How do I get it to work with Mac?

you download it for mac................

www.logmein.com can answer every question here.

differences are listed on the site.

AMD - Do your dental programs require alot of data transfer? If it is just office applications (word, excel), a simple vpn setup to your office server will be all you need. when you start accessing larger files it gets slow with normal broadband (unless you have crazy fast isp). when you get into that stuff in my opinion it seems better to connect with something like logmein or rdp, etc.

anyway i repair about 50% of clients computer problems using a Logmein version, either Logmein Free or Logmein Rescue. we set alot of clients up about 300 computers on Logmein Free last year now moving on to Rescue since you can get into Safe mode and fix everything.

just try em out, every piece of software is either free or has free trial

i'm probably not gonna be doing a lot of data transfer, maybe some.
I'll have to test them out and see how i like it.

So if a computer on your domain is turned on, but logged off, can it still work?

Yes- it runs as a system service.

It is also GREAT due to the fact it is good (although slow) to show remote users how to do things. Also a downside to the fact is you can't login behind the scenes (I think this is a feature of Pro- not sure).

Can anyone confirm the Pro version includes logging in behind the scenes?

Sorry, it was IT Reach, from their website:

Background Access
Proactive problem resolution in the background without interrupting users; access an unattended machine 24/7/365

Logmein makes admin templates so that domains can block.manage logmein, which is good. Besides that though I've used it in a domain setting just fine. As always it depends on how vigilant the admins are.

For my home pc logmein works great. For computer support I use Crossloop. Easy for the other person to setup, doesn't have to always be on. No accounts needed.:D

How do you guys like Radmin? Has anyone ever used it before, and if so, how does it compare to LogMeIn for you?
