Logitech z680 Question

Hi i have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, and a set of Logitech z680, currently i have them connected via a digital coax cable going from my (pod) to my breakout box. I guess what i'm asking is what is the best settings on both the creative hq etc, and the pod? Do i want it on stero or movie mode? in creative hq what settings are best, is dts better then 5.1. I just want to know how to get the most out of my speakers. Thanks in advanced, i'm really new to this whole sound thing.

Well, I have the same equipment you do, (A2zs platinum, Z680's).

Here's what I have things set on:

Via the analog connection on back of SB card, the 3 lines go to my center/sub, front, and rear channel analog plugs on the 680's.

I also have used the optical output on the front of the Platinum panel, connected directly to the 680's, using "optical mode".

To be honest, I think that the Analog connection (3-wires) is the best option. You can then set your 680's to "Direct 6-channel", and in the Audigy2zs software, set the speakers to 5.1.

Also, you will get better quality using the SB2zs onboard DD/DTS decoder, coming out through analog, than you will using the decoder on the 680's. For my movies, Xbox, etc, I have the Audigy2zs do the decoding, and send the 5.1 output to the 680's using the 3-plug analog connection.

That way, I never have to change settings on the 680's, just leave it on Direct-6channel all the time. I also decode Xbox DD/DTS content through the optical input on the front of the platinum drive.

my roomie has the same set up and he himself uses the optical as we seem to hear the difference between the two quite distinctly, but then again, tis our ears...we tend to futz around a lot with them and just left it at that, trial and error will only prove your own results...g'luck

You should plug them into the Audigy's analog outputs instead. The DAC and output stage electronics in the Z-680's are of a lower quality than that of your soundcard.
