A few weeks ago i purchased a set of Logitech z5300 spreakers. After using them for the last few weeks i have noticed how unbalanced the bass volume is compared to the system volume. Just to get the bass to blend well i have to, turn the sub volume all the way down on the remote, turn the 20hz/75hz/135hz all the way down in the sound card equalizer, and turn on the matrix 3d thing. Even now sometimes it doesn't sound right or i can't find the right volume because of the overly loud bass. The satelites sound fine and every thing else is great about them.

Just wondering if there is anything else i can do to remedy this, or if anyone else agrees with me? Is there anyway to get more punch out of the sub and less boom?
 
This is only one reason why I personally don't like logitech speakers...
The equilizer adjustments should have done it if done properly according to the sub. But try relocating the sub to a place less of a corner or wall. My theory (even if completely wrong) is that logitech sub cabinets are too small and crampped for their driver size, and therefore leading to boominess.

Probably not, usually the size of the enclosure gives you freq. range for that type sub. That will give the best output. Usually the TYPE on enclosure is what gives off that boomy sound. The logitechs have a ported sub which I feel gives a better sound for movies. Most home theater subs that are satellite based are like this to my knowledge. Plus it helps the lower end bass a lot. It helps make the logitech subwoofer cheaper without having to have that sub being really high quality.
 
Out of curiosity and for future reference, what type of sub should i look for if i want more punch? And do any multimedia systems use this other type of subwoofer?
 
How much money have you got? All types of subs can give punch. It just takes good design and quality components.
 
You can try stuffing the sub loosely with polyester pillow stuffing from a fabric store. That might help with the boominess. You should also tweak with the subwoofer location. That can make a big difference.
 
pink fiberglass wall insulation works too, but expands quite a lot so dont use too thick of a lining.
 
My Z-680s do the same thing. If you do put insulation into the port, remember not to put it so far in that you can't get it out. ;)

For all around sound quality, typically the sealed subwoofer is the best for clean tight bass. The klipsch speakers which a lot of people rave about have twin sealed 8" drivers bridged. So yeah :). There is nothing wrong with the logitech sub really, you just have to know what kind of sound your getting. Plus the fact that the speakers are around 225 bucks makes it killer haha.
 
if you're talking about the promedia 5.1 or ultra sets, the sub on both of them is ported. the only difference with the ultra set is that the port is in the back, and is in the form of a slot along the bottom. The klipsch sub is great except that the frequency range is far too high since it makes up for the satellite defficiencies. 120Hz crossover on the promedias was murder to my ears! other than that little issue they sounded pretty sweet.
 
I thought the klipsch 5.1's were sealed, at least I never noticed a port on the ones I saw. Hmm.. THat's how I figured they would be tighter, because of the backpressure in the box. I'm going by the way people make them sound because i've only heard/saw them in best buy which isn't shit :(.

Ahh you are right! They do have it. I stand corrected :). I never saw it.
