Just went around town looking for the Logitech THX Certified Z-680 5.1 Speaker 500Watt's -- The (Best Buy, etc) people no longer carry them, because they are "end of life."

Instead they recommend the Logitech® Z-5300 series. Are they at all comparable or even better speakers? They cost US $150~ less than the Z-680's.

I have them purchased for the token 30 days. However, if they suck, I'll get the Z-680's online and just pay the shipping charges.

Yea, so far I haven't even removed them from the box. The wife is out now searching around the Electronic stores to see if she can locate the Z-680's. (Luckily I live in Dallas).

If I don't have Z-680's by tomorrow, I'm gonna newegg them. They don't ship on Sundays, so the brick-n-mortars get one shot. :)

I am building a faux wall to mount 2 20.1" LCD's on, and want to build in the center channel and 2 front channel speakers today. But, unless somebody can show me review proof(s) that the cheaper speakers are better, I've gotta wait a few days on the cabinet.

The big thing about the Z-5300's as compared to the 680's, is that the 5300's don't come with the decoder (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc.)

For what it's worth, IGN seemed to Recommend the Z-5300's if you didn't need the decoding capabilities of the 680's.

with my z680's the buzzing sound is gone. also, if you are using it in a home theatre, don't get the z5300. The z680's control pod allows you to hook up to 4 different devices at once and you can switch between each one. Not to mention coaxial and optical inputs. Plus you get a wireless remote, which is a big plus for a home entertainment setup. The z5300's is wired. Plus the bass..... :D  :D

kind of strange if they are dropping th line amazon still has them.
