I recently purchased a set of z-5500 speakers from amazon.com and hooked them up. Well, while listening to them I noticed that they sounded pretty weak compared to my friends set up of z-5500s. The satellite speakers sound just fine, it's the sub that's not getting the job done. So, I took my sub and my optical cable over to my buddies house to see if I got a bad sub. After we hooked everything up it sounded just as good if not better than his sub. So it turns out that the sub can't deliver enough power to fill my room so it just gets lost in the void. And without being able to "feel" the sub having 5.1 surround sound loses a lot of its appeal and is pretty much pointless. It just sounds dull and lifeless. You can hear the sub, it's just not powerful enough to deliver good sound quality in my room. Does logitech have any plans to release a more powerful system sometime in the near future or should I go out and buy a more powerful/more expensive surround sound system? Any other suggestions are welcome. Thx in advance.

i have already tried putting the sub in several different places/positions in my room. it doesnt matter where i put it, it still doesnt put out like it should.

How big is your room?

My room's pretty big but since I'm only on my PC in the center of the room, I center the speakers around just the center. Are you placing them around your area or trying to space them out around the entire room?

i have them in my bedroom right now and i think it's either 18x16 or 18x18 with 9 foot ceilings. And yes, I have them spaced out over my entire room. I have a satellite in each corner with the center channel in the center obviously. I have the sub placed about 12 inches from the corner of the room. It's the best set up for my room placement wise. But as I said, the satellite speakers sound great, its the sub that is bringing the whole system down. It's just not powerful enough to give it that umph that makes surround sound so awesome.

stupid question although overlooked a lot, have you tinkered with the speakers levels for the sub in the control pods menu?

A low quality 10" subwoofer cannot compensate for the inadequacies of 5 tiny computer speakers in that type of room. I think you are overestimating what the Z-5500 is capable of.

yeh you are right. after hearing my friends setup in his room, which is a lot smaller than my room (not even half as big), i was really impressed with them and just had to have them. I didnt really think about my room being over twice as big as his is and it affecting the sound quality of the speakers. i decided to send them back for a refund and just save my money to get a better/more powerful set of speakers. thx for all of the help.
