I really no longer have the room for the 2 surround speakers and I was wondering if just removing the 2 surrounds would be the right way to go about it. Or is there a setting or something I should look into so the audio range is corrected?

I don't want to be that guy with 5 speakers on a desk, thats not how surround works lol
 
Be that guy with 5 speakers on your desk. It may look weird, but a lot of competitive gamers prefer 5.1 speakers right in front of them as opposed to spread out over a room because it's easier to identify exactly where someone is sneaking up behind you.

If that doesn't appeal to you and you just want to use the center, left, and right satellites + subwoofer, set your "effect: to Dolby Pro Logic II Movie or Game and you should be fine
