I have been thinking about purchasing some new speackers for my room to use with my 360 and computer,I am going to sell my dell i bough a few months ago since i built my first system like a month ago.I am selling it with the logitech x40 and acer montior,I will probably buy a olevia 32 inch lcd to use with computer and 360 so i need new speakers to no 5.1 needed since its not a big bedroom.Do you think the logitech z2300;s are any good.

A lot of people favour the Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 Speakers over the Z-2300s. 'Just something else to consider, that's all.

2300 should work fine. Just use the analog outs from the 360. However, keep in mind that the 360 was meant for surround sound. If you can stretch it, the 5500 would be a good choice because it can decode the multichannel content on the 360... in actuality, the 5500 would be perfect for a room that is not too big.

Man those suck, seriously not worth their money. If you can try to find an old promedia 2.1 set if you absolutely have to use PC speakers, if not grab a receiver and 2 moderately priced bookshelf speakers. I've owned the z2300 and personally I think my friend's logitech z3s sounded even better and they're half the price!

The z-2300's are okay. The hardware mixing for the bass is way over powering and the satellites can't keep up. High volume seems to muddy the sound clarity. I gave them to my wife and I use the x-540's which, in all seriousness sound better than the z-2300's (will probably get shit for that). The sub unit is much improved over the x-530's and the 5.1 satellites spread the sound out (coupled with an XtremeMusic anyway).

This is based strictly on a budget, non-audiophile perspective.

I agree with you. I have had the chance to own the x 530 and currently still using the z 2300. I find that the 2300 woofer can be extremely overpowering. Ok when I want to play hip hop/house music really loud but when it comes to playing jazz, rock etc... i would have much prefered to have my x 530's. If you are tight for space and want a system that is loud and punchy, go for teh 2300. If not, choose the 530's

Logitech are good at making mice and keyboards.

audio companies are good at making speakers.(real ones, not marketing companies like bose)

Promedias are ok... but they have too much of a top sizzle for me. It's good for the wow factor, first time you turn it on or if you listen at low volumes consistently.

Regardless, I think all PC speakers are a compromise. Just figure out a budget and work from there. See if you can listen to some and base your decision on that.

Even those who profess that bookshelves and a receiver are the way to go will concede that there is no other way to get 35hz to 20khz (-ish) for under 100$. I'd like to see someone come up with a solution for the sub $100 setup that includes an amp, a pair of bookshelves, and a subwoofer (if the bookshelf does not reach 35hz).... you *might* be able to get away with used floorstanders from a yard sale, but this is unlikely to happen.

Anyway, good luck with your quest. Let us know what you end up with.

Everyone here is knowledgeable so take into consideration what everyone at [H] has to offer you.

I hated my Z-2300's. The subwoofer produces a loud oomph but has no clarity at all, it just spits out bass indiscriminately. Midrange was completely lacking, I had a really hard time understanding spoken speech in movies, especially if the speaker was male. Highs are muddy and incredibly rolled off, when I played songs that had bells in them, I could barely hear the bells and they sounded muffled.

Don't be fooled by the good reviews by people who don't know a thing about good sound. They're too blinded by the power of the subwoofer.

I hated my Z-2300's as well. I hated them so much that I went to the extreme so I could make up for the imbalance they caused to my ears :) . No, seriously though, I highly recommend choosing non-computer speakers.

The picture doesn't show the surrounds, which are behind the picture POV and the sub, which is to the side of the POV.

wel today i special ordered the z-2300 from circuit city after my interview since they were outta stock,I figure that if i was to get 5.1 for my room it would be to much of a hassle cus the limited speaker wires would not be able to set it up very well and don't feel like spending that much time.I also listen to alot of metal music so the extra bass i think will help over my crappy x140s or w/e there called. If i end up getting the job since i have a second interview friday i will see if theres a way i could use my discount for the speakers.I am only 16 and don't see the need to spend over 150 or have the money to be spending over that for just speakers.I am much more into the game to take in all the sound effects.

Good for you! Hope you get the job then...

I interviewed there a while ago... back when I was in high school and worked for Best Buy. Man, that was like 7 years ago.

Hey did you work at best buy when you interviewed there because i applied at best buy first and got a interview but no luck there.I am kinda glad i didn't get the job there they seem alot more dishonest than circuit city employees i've talked to.so did you like it at best buy though.

More bass != better bass. Let us know how you feel about them.

It's not the amount of bass that makes these speakers bad, it is the satellites themselves that are completely overpowered by the bass. It sounds like you have two different things going on at the same time during the music or movie, and I mean in a bad way. The satellites have a unbelievable small range of sound and it sounds very unbalanced.

without thread crapping, I worked at Best Buy for a almost two years and lets put it this way: CC is just as dishonest about BB. You'd get customers coming to us saying that Circuit City told them a whole bunch of things that were completely untrue. It's rampant.

But, as a personal note, don't lie to your customer and they'll respect your honesty and come back. Just cause other people do it, doesnt mean you should - one bad apple makes the rest look worse too.

It's both those things. The subwoofer produces floor-shaking bass but it's incredibly muddy. And the satellites don't fare much better. I could go into great detail about how crappy the Z-2300's are but suffice to say, you can do much better for the same amount of money.

Ok i have had them set up for about 2 days now,

Pros & Cons:I like the bass not to much distortion but i found out that like when watching movie its harder to hear voices so i have to turn volume even more up.It does pretty well for hip hop,but i don't listen to hip hop and i find that when i start cutting the volume up from the start that the left satelite gives out more sound after i cut them up a bit louder it becomes harder to notice but its still like your more drawn to the left speaker i have tested both its kinda annoying but not detrimental i guess.I also think that the sound from the satelites sound kinda then idk better than the x-240s i had but i am happy with the upgrade just i am considering taking them back kinda thinking about a 5.1 setup in the room idk the choices are hard though i don't really want any less bass and don't wanna spend over 200$.I am looking at the logi g51,e5300 and x540 systems, and possibly the z5500 if i get the job becus i heard with discount its like 200 bucks sounds like a steal.

but overall i don't think these are that bad love games on them but the satelite thing with the sound more on one side is really annoying maybe a defective one ?

If one channel is deficient, there is something wrong. Exchange them or get the 5.1 that you want.

If you've checked your speaker config in windows and your audio drivers, then the wired remote or something on the speakers is too blame for disparity in sound.

The e5300's look and sound like a good compromise in price/sound quality - if you can deal with the hideously bulky and ugly wired remote. Personally, I'd save for the z-5500's if 5.1 is what your leaning towards. The x-540's are a bargain for the sound quality - you just lose the lower frequency bass.
