Logitech x-530's + G5 iMac

My roommate just bought and received the Logitech x-530's that were on sale during the last month or so...

He has a G5 iMac and we are trying to hook them up to his iMac but we are only getting 2.1 sound - both Left channels are linked and both Right channels are linked. what gives? we took the 3 mini-plugs and hooked them into the adapter that came with the speakers, it converted them into 2 RCA plugs and we used a RCA to mini-plug converter to hook it to his iMac through his "optical out."

what should we do? we'd really like ot get some 5.1 going here... thanks.

 
lol.. yes... I forgot to mention that.. good point... and also you can ask/find someone with a software to put sound on all channels if ur listenning to music.. but in games/movies there should be an option for 5.1 and make sure.. ur MAC... I know nothing about... sound settings is set to 5.1 if it's anything like windows.
 
yes, i'm playing DVD's that are in 5.1 and everything i've found indicates that whatever sound card the iMac has, it supports 5.1. there are no systems options for 5.1 or anything of that kind in the system settings.
