I'm not sure if I'm crazy or stupid... but... do the Logitech Harmony remote controls not come with the IR or RF receiver ? Everywhere I go to buy online says nothing about a receiver thing included in the package...? So you still have to buy the original MCE remote with receiver then the Harmony remote controls...?

It depends on which Harmony you are talking about. The 890 does but my 360(550) doesn't. But I bought a pretty cool internal transmitter and reciever set to take care of that.

Yeah, my 880 didn't come with a receiver. I am not using it on my HTPC though.

=_=

I do want an all-in-one solution...but I don't want to have to buy the MCE remote control and then buy the logitech remote control.

Cheers folks !

I have an 880 and you do have to program it as a MCE remote which does require an IR box. The trick is that most people have either already bought an off the shelf "media center" pc that comes with an ir box or are building up a custom rig that quite often has IR built into the front panel and is all internal connections. So if you aren't using a somewhat nicer case and don't already own one then yes you will need an IR box which you can purchase seperately online.

I had to get the MCE remote to have a nice working IR reciever then purchased my 880 later. I got a refurb from amazon though to help compensate.

No Harmony remotes ultimatly transmit via RF. They all transmit IR, and if there's "RF" on the box it merely means it transmits via RF to an IR blaster by whatever unit you're controlling.

I bought an 880 along with an MCE remote for the IR receiver, and it is the best all in one solution that I've played with.

Now, if you don't need the macro functionality of the 880, I can sell you my Gyration MCE remote, which INCLUDES a receiver. Operates over RF for the computer and IR for TV/CableBox/Etc (up to 3 devices). I basically have this. I"m using the 880 for the macro functionality as that has a higher FAF (precursor to the WAF).

I'm planning to get the Harmony 880 in a few days.

If I get a Windows MCE Receiver, would I be able to control Winamp and Media Player Classic functions, or would it be limited to Media Center Player only?

Really....what about the 890? I know this supports RF....maybe there is a small RF box or something that is bundled with it. But my understanding is full RF from the remote straight outta the box.

It does support RF, but only to transmit to the IR blaster that you put in your stereo cabinet.

Naah, I'm alright now. Just got me the usual MCE remote, I only have 3 remote controls in me room, and it doesn't look cluttered at all. Only for TV, AV receiver and PC.

Problem solved for now.... Until I will realize that no freaking Blu-Ray drives that uses IDE will come out, I may have to buy a stand-alone BR player or PS3 and then get a universal remote control.

Bump.

Before I decide whether or not to pick one up, could someone please help me out with this question? :(

With MPC it doesn't work, I have just tried. Just tried, but no intensive testing or experimentation. Maybe someone else who has more extensive knowledge than me can give you a better answer.

With WinAMP, I don't know. I don't use it.
