I'm looking to get a new mouse and these two are on the top of my list. I play FPS games and just wanted to know what you guys think is the best one IYO. They both seem to have their ups and downs.
 
Razer Viper hands down. If it is from a company completely devoted to gaming, like Razer is, then get their product if you're a gamer...
 
mx510 hands down, just don't install the drivers. I use a mx500 and IE 3.0 and the mx500 is the smoothest mouse I have ever used so I would imagine the mx510 would be even better. The old ball razer's looked AMAZING on paper but weren't anything special, hence why the company went out of business for a few years. Combine a mx510 with a gaming mousepad such as a steelpad 4D (the plastic one), func 1030, or a cloth mat such as a "dkt" mat you are in business.
 
I got my blue MX510 in 2 weeks ago, and love it. I have used one of the new BFG boomslang mice (kinda like a razer) and didnt like it a lot. It felt weird to me, maybe I just needed to get used to it. In any case, I recommend the MX510.
 
I have a red mx510. It is awesome. The Viper might be better. I know that the mx510 has 800dpi and the newest Viper has 1000.

What's wrong with the MX510 Drivers? and if I don't install them do I still get the same DPI? and Sensor rate? And don't you have to install the drivers to assign the extra buttons to commands?
 
I doubt you'd notice any difference between the Viper and the MX510. However, the MX500 and 510 have different sensors as well as a different appearance.

The MX510 sensor: "What makes the MX510 a true performance gaming mouse is the 800-dpi, 5.8 megapixel MX optical sensor with its high report rate of 12-bits. Most comparable mice only contain a 400dpi sensor with a lower megapixel rating and only transmit data at an 8 bit report rate. The difference between 8bit and 12bit is close to three times the speed and responsiveness. This translates into the user being able to move the mouse at a rate of 40 inches per second without having the mouse losing its precision."

The MX500 sensor: "The key technology in Logitech's MX series of mice is the MX optical engine, the optical sensor underneath the MX500 processes images at 4.7 megapixels a second and has a resolution of 800 dpi. This allows the MX500 to smoothly track movements at up to 1 meter a second which is faster than anyone will be able to move the mouse across a mouse mat."
