Logitech MX 518 or Razer Deathadder?

I hear about both of these mice a lot and I need help to decide which one I should get. I need people who actually own both of them. If you only own 1 of them, don't bother posting in this thread.

I own both, used the mx518 for years and currently use the DeathAdder. Both are very nice and perform equally well in my experience. I prefer the DeathAdder because it's larger (I have big hands) and it's overall more comfortable to me. My advice between these two mice is to get whichever is most comfortable to you. (generic advice, but with these mice it rings true. Both are very good)

My first gaming mouse was the logitech Mx518 quite a while back. I loved it and didnt' think there could be anything better out there, but after I had lost it (really left it at a friends house across the country) I was forced to try something new. I picked up the Deathadder, and when I did I realized how much I was really missing out. The feel and shape of the mouse to me was SUCH an improvement over the mx518 that I now really dislike the mouse because it doesn't fit my hand at all...

Sensor quality wise the Deathadder should be better, and doesn't have prediction, but I doubt you would see any difference they track extremely well.

I also felt the buttons on the Deathadder had a nicer feel, easier to press down and I think that it registered better (if you were trying to click really fast it was harder to do that with the mx518). Again a small difference but every little bit counts.

The one thing I disliked about the Deathadder was the scroll wheel. It didn't really have any defined notches, it was solid and worked well and you could easily work around that, but I would have to say Logitech was superior in that way.

But I still prefer the Deathadder by far, and if I can throw in another recommendation, take a look at the Zowie EC series. It's a nearly identical shape (EC1, EC2 is the same thing but smaller) and has the same sensor you would find in the Mx518. But what I like more about the mouse is first off, completely driverless, runs 1000hz right out of the box and all. It has VERY slick mousefeet that wouldn't need to be replaced immediately if that's your thing, and it has I think the best feeling scroll wheel of any mouse (great improvement over the Deathadder). Just another thing to consider.

I do not own either or but death adder sounds cooler, although i do have 2 logitech peripherals currently

I own both but haven't had the DeathAdder long enough to say for sure which Iike better. Yea, the DeathAdder's scroll wheel is kinda suckish (first thing I noticed about it really), but I like the shape as well as or probably a little better than the MX518.

I have a deathadder, and my roommate has a mx518 - I would say both mice are fantastic, but not comparable. The way each mouse grips in the hand is very different. I find when I put my hand on my razer I feel as though its home, however his logitech is not comfortable at all to me, especially in regards to my ring and pinky finger - it's too thin for my hand and leaves them no where to go!

I have both. I like the deathadder much more. The mx518 had a texture to it that i didnt like. It stuck to my palms and hand too easily esp on humid days. The texture is nicer on deathadder and just feels nicer.

It really depends on the way you grip your mouse. I used the MX518 for a few years before switching to the DeathAdder. I prefer the way the DeathAdder feels much more then the MX518. Both are great mice though.

I love my Deathadder, I was looking for the longest time for a left handed GAMING mouse and the left handed version of the DA was perfect! The only thing I've found is Razer mice tend to wear out rather quickly and the "support" for them isn't very good. The feet fall off after about 6 months of use for me and I emailed them about it and was told I can buy new ones and where to buy them but not a replacement.

My current deathadder is starting to have problems with the scroll wheel, it doesn't always scroll down but I think that's just due to lots and lots of use. Regardless I'd still buy another Razer device for supporting left handed gamers. I'll be investing in the Razer Black Widow ultimate when I get some extra money.

Go Razer, it's worth the money.

I don't know about the 3.5G Deathadder but the 3G and MX518 both track very well. I just prefer the Deathadder since I find it to be more comfortable. You cant go wrong with either mouse.

reports around the web say that the 3.5G is inferior, but i just replaced my broken 3G with a new 3.5G and there is *literally* no difference that i can see.

Thats good to hear. The shape of the Deathadder is just so perfect. I would dread having to find a replacement should something go wrong.

I have both. Bought MX581 and DeathAdder later.
I like them both. For gaming, I prefer DeathAdder and for daily usage, web surfing, document editing I use MX518.

The 3G is/was able to track on more surfaces compared to the 3.5G. People have said that firmware have fixed tracking issues, although I haven't looked deeper into the issue.

i've used both. I love my DA. The buttons are great. I bought the 3.5 after my 3g's left button went out after a 3 years of use. It may be just cuz its new, but the wheel feels better on the 3.5

i noticed that as well, though i figure it was because the old wheel on my old DA was worn in quite a bit.

I just wanted to ask. Do you guys (Porter and dj) use a cloth pad? I love my cloth pad and thats where I feel that my DA 3g blows away any "laser'" mouse that I have used.

Had both MX518 & DA 3.5G, I sent the logitec back and kept the DeathAdder, enough said!

The DA and SteelSeries QcK Mass Mouse Mat (cloth) = match made in heaven.
