Ive heard some people say the Mx Mice work just as well without the logitech drivers and mouseware. Is there any truth to this?

I'm using an old mx300.

They will work but you will have no control over the custom settings. Buttons, scroll speed and so one.

They will work just fine. You just cannot program some of the additional buttons. But I usually install the drivers and not that bloatware Mouseware. I just uninstall the file into a folder and just load my drivers the usually way.

I was having problems with my MX1000, like big problems with the skipping. Installing the drivers downloaded from logitech yielded much better tracking (although I still noticed slight problems). To correct the other slight problems I switched my mousepad from an optical cloth pad, to a fUnc1030, solved the rest of my tracking problems. So basically, if you aren't having any tracking problems no need for the drivers or mouseware, if you are it might help (like it seemed to do in my case).

PS . If you are getting an MX1000 they DONT work on cloth mouse pads, I had a great cloth mouse pad that works flawlessy with regular optical mice, but worked annoyingly bad with the MX1000, no such problems with the fUnc1030.

The side to side scrolling...were you able to program that for use in games. I was thinking that if you could, it would be good for leaning. I still can't decide between the MX518 and the MX1000.

Go MX518!! I heard the MX1000 has laser problems, and that it lags and skips.

If you want to do that go here: http://www.logigamer.com

A friend of mine just bought the MX1000 and uses the buttons for leaning also. Basically the Logitech software works for every button but the side-to-side scrolling. Thus, if you bind buttons to keys you'll be good. If you want to use the lean feature download the little utility from logigamer :D. Good luck!

umm no it doesnt. mine is working perfectly. highly recommend it. But if you really want a corded mouse the 518 is also a good choice. I had the 510 for a while and upgrade to the mx1000

i am likeing the mx1000 the battery life is really good and the software works well with it

Another vote for "NO, it doesn't!" I've personally used the mouse that my friend bought and did not experience any problems whatsoever. In fact, it was so accurate that I had to turn down the sensitivity slightly. It feels weird without the cord for sure, but there are absolutely no lag problems or skipping that I noticed.

My only complaint with the mouse stems from the sidescroll button. I frequently use the scroll wheel as a 3rd button (i.e. pressing it down). Several times I would push down and lean either left or right, which was somewhat annoying. Again, this concern is extremely minor, but that was the ONLY major thing I didn't like about it.

Pros:
Ergonomic feel
Responsive
Tons of buttons
No cord
Battery Life (didn't charge it for an entire week...gaming a few hours a day)

Cons:
Sidescroll is too easily pressed when pushing down on mousewheel
Thumb button and scroll up button too hard for me to reach (short fingers)...very minor though
