Hi,

I'm very demanding gamer when it comes to mouses, I've tried many of them and seems like the best for me is logitech g9 / g9x -> the shape is absolutely perfect BUT...

This is laser mouse, the lift off distance is high - I don't like it. So I tried to lower it:

1. I looked all over the internet for some firmware reducing lift off distance - havent found any :(
2. I put scotch tape under the mouse to cover part of the sensor -> didnt help much so I give up with scotch tape ideas...
3. I bought new mouse skatez and sticked them on the default ones, so the sensor is now higher then on default skatez. It helped a bit but new problem occured -> sensor loses traction during very fast moves. Ok so I changed mousepad -> it helped (still loses traction but on extremely fast moves which I dont do in gaming).

The lift off distance is still to high for me :( I bought another mouse skatez but with 3 sets of skatez sensor started to lose traction very easily :/ so I only use 2 sets now.

I'm still looking for a way to fix this lift off distance, any ideas?

I've been using my G9 for a long time and absolutely love the thing and I've not noticed any issues with the lift off distance. I wonder if it's possible you got a faulty mouse? Is it something you could eventually get used to cause I don't think there is a fix for this.

Tape it like this here:

The pad you are using also affects it.

All else fails, get a new mouse :p Lowest LOD I've seen is on a Zowie AM.

Like i said- I taped mouse like this but didnt help much, I wonder why there is no firmware for this :(

The tapefix is supposed to reduce it to 2CD LOD. It should be a very noticeable difference.

I want another for work. Love my G9. This Intellimouse 3.0 is dying... :(

Think you might be asking for a little much. That's pretty low as you have it now. Not sure you'll get much lower than that.

Are you using the g9"x" or the first version... I had a g9x and it lost track on fabric mousepads and only worked on hard surfaces returned it . And used a mouse with same sensor of normal g9 (gigabyte gm8000) and it did not have a problem such as you described.

The shape is dream but the sensor has issues.

I was just about to ask the same question.

i have g9, without "x"

Well, I have the G9x, and I can tell you for sure that your lift off distance will depend heavily on your surface. Case in point: I have a Steelpad 4D. It has 2 sides to it, a smooth side and rough side. I thought it would be better for the mouse to work on the smooth side, right? Wrong. Not only was the sensor lift off ridiculously high, the sensor never tracked properly. Flip the mouse pad over to the rough side? Sensor lift off is 2mm or less, and tracks PERFECTLY. Been using it like this for over a year and a half now.

So does the G9x improve cloth pad performance any? I'm using a qck mass mousepad and my original G9 can't track on it properly at all (skips around badly). However, a G500 works fine on it. I thought the G500 and G9x were using the same sensor, but I wanted to verify.

Or is there a firmware update / setting available for the g9 to improve cloth performance?

I have the G9x MW3 edition, $10 cheaper, why not. Came with a cloth mousepad, it works fine on that and on my zazzle.com custom printed cloth mousepad which was like $14 but probably too small for most gamers' tastes. 9.25" x 7.75"

The LOD is pretty high though, 2-3 CDs I'm guessing but never did the CD test myself.
