I recently picked up a VX Nano for my EEE PC and have started using it on my desktop, I love it! I'm really impressed by the features and performance of the VX Nano. I haven't used a wireless mouse in a few years and the technology seems to have really come a long way since then, unfortunately the VX Nano is not comfortable for the amount of time I spend gaming on my desktop so I'm considering upgrading my Logitech G5 to the G7. How many [H] users are gaming with a G7? What kind of battery life can I expect while playing FPS games? Any problems with fast movement on black mouse surfaces?

QFT on the VX nano. I cannot stress enough how nice this mouse is, and not having to worry about losing or breaking the USB dongle... priceless.

Today I pressed down on the mouse wheel and hear a loud click and the scroll wheels started clicking like a normal wheel. I almost crapped my pants because I thought I had just broken my new mouse, then I pressed it down again and figured out it was another feature.

I upgraded from a $6 Mitsumi wired optical mouse to a Logitech G7. Maybe "upgrade" isn't the right word because it doesn't feel like it.

Why I wouldn't recommend a G7:
1. physically heavier, which makes response feel sluggish
2. becomes unresponsive randomly, have to unplug/plug in usb dongle to become active again
3. constantly requires DPI changes to compensate mouse speed, per application
4. becomes unresponsive randomly, have to unplug/plug in usb dongle to become active again
5. wheel takes a lot of pressure to push down to act as a 3rd mouse button
6. becomes unresponsive randomly, have to unplug/plug in usb dongle to become active again

Did I mention it becomes unresponsive at random?

I've had the G7 roughly four weeks and it's nice except for when it dies on me. The mouse remains on, but connectivity is lost. Doesn't matter if I'm 2 feet away or 20 feet, with a clear line of sight.

Do a search for "logitech G7 unresponsive" and you will see multiple complaints about the same issue. I'm sure there are ones that work, but too many people say otherwise, plus my own personal experience with one. Too bad I'm past my 30 return policy.

The G7 is pretty much indistinguishable from a G5 in usage. It has no adjustable weights, with a battery back where the weights would be.

Battery life is poor (6-10 hours of usage at best), but it comes with a charging dock and two batteries; hotswapping them only takes a few seconds and a battery will be fully charged by the time the one in the mouse dies. Still, there are times when it starts dying at inopportune moments, so I've gotten in the habit of checking my battery and swapping it before I enter something where I can't be interrupted (raid boss in WoW, FPS session, whatever). You get plenty of warning, but it is a factor.

I'd overall say it's simply the best wireless mouse out there, and every bit as responsive as a wired mouse. There's another thread on it somewhere around here.

I have a G5 and before that I had a G7. My sister has it now.

I usually replaced the battery every day. Like ElAntonius says, battery life is short, but it is essentially a non-issue.

As far as responsiveness goes, I never had a problem and it's still working great. :)

I have an MX 518 on this computer... i really cant go to a wireless mouse since i have serious problems with the connectivity of it... my desk is higher than my chair... and i have one of those like 1960's chairs with the fold out arms on the sides...it kind of sucked playin BF2 or UT back in the day and shooting someone only to have my char freeze and not move when i got a bit spastic with the wireless mouse...lol

MX518 FTW! I've been using a MX518 for a year now, never had a single issue and would buy another one if needed. It's not as comfortable as a Logitech Mouseman wheel mouse (they're old, dont make 'em anymore but the best mouse I've ever owned in the "comfort dept) but the MX518 is very comfortable, has "sensitivity on the fly" and 1600 dpi laser. What moer could ya ask for?

I always buy my mice 2 at a time.. since i got in the habit of throwing them back in the days of doing clan matches in BF2...lol.. so when my new system arrives i got a brand new one in the box sittin on my shelf right now..heh

battery life kinda annoys me, especially during heavy gaming the battery may run out quite fast.

Also the charger aint too good sometimes for me. I have to push it in until the charger starts lighting up.

Overall its a great mouse but I'm replacing it with a Razer since my G7 is starting to wear out after 2 years of heavy gaming. Its been good to me.

I like my G7 but battery life is poor. But then again I have never had a problem with having 2 dead batteries..

I love my G7. The battery life isnt so bad, It is a Daily Swap out, but it only takes a Second or two. The Wireless is flawless for the most part, the only time I ever see a "hang" is if something big is happening over the USB Bus, like printing to a USB printer.. But those are few and far between.

Overall, the precision is excellent, the ergonomics are excellent and the functionality is great.

I would give it an 9/10. (If the batteries lasted longer, it would be a 10)

The 518 isn't a laser mouse its optical. Plus the new models are sporting 1800dpi, if you manage to find one in retail. Surest way to get these is direct from Logitech. Oh yeah...regarding the G7, the Connect Utility (in setpoint) is a lifesaver for lost connections.

Have a link to that utility?

Connect Utility
Select the MX Revolution.

Also, if you have SetPoint installed it is included. (Best Way)

Well after trying to get my hands on a G7 for a few days and finding none in retail I went to Logitech's accommodation site(Best Buy employee) only to find out that even LOGITECH was out of stock of them. So I went to CC to look at the G9, bought it on impulse and was wandering around the store BSing the Firedogs with some of my Geeksquad coworkers:)p) after checking out and what do I see? Two god damn Logitech G7's on clearance. They were priced at $79 and I spent $99 on my G9 but I just hung on to the G9 to give it a try. Gotta say, I really love the G9 and hopefully will one day see the G7 in stock at Logitech's accommodation site and pick one up for $40 and give that a try.

Really? It says the G7 is in-stock for me.
Its on the Logitech website for sale too.
