Im using the mx518 right now but have heard great things about the g5. However I jus ran across the G7 ads and they look mighty tempting too. Anyone have any thoughts? I know the G7 is wireless and Im sure you know wireless's bad rep for gaming but if it is just as good as the g5 then the g7 is the one for me. Opinions and/or experiences needed please.

If it's a Logitech wireless mouse, it does not have a bad rep for gaming :)

I got the MX700 about 4-5 years ago. I was amazed at the quality, comfort, and its battery life. No skipping/lagging at all, unless it was right next to my CRT, or if a hair got stuck under the mouse by the lens. Using it for hours every day, I only had to replace the batteries once, which was a few months ago. Then I pack it and head to college, but when I get there the mouse randomly stopped working. No idea what was wrong with it... it was working great before I left and when I set everything up, the batteries would get extremely hot if the mouse was left in the charger. I saw that as a sign to upgrade to the MX1000 :)

Before using it, it just looked too big and I didn't think it would be as comfortable as the MX700. So I was unsure of what to expect. But after a day of using it, it feels fine. Hand is very comfortable resting on the mouse. It feels weird using a normal mouse now, and even the MX700 design isn't the same. The weight is around the same, and there were a few new buttons. Also, it uses a lithium-ion battery, which never needs to be replaced according to Logitech. It seems to last a lot longer too, and the indicator on the side will let you know if it needs to be charged. I have left it off the charger for days before it went down to 2/3 lights. Logitech states that it will last for 21 days if it is left off the charger, and will only take 3-4 hours to charge it to full.

I have not used the G5 or the G7, so I'm not sure what to recommend with them. I'd definately get the G7 if those were my only two choices, but I'd rather have the MX1000 over either of them. All the extra buttons help so much, in both web browsing and gaming. Each button is fully customizable (download uberInstall modded Logitech drivers to unlock certain settings), which can make it a LOT easier for many games. When I used to play Dark Age Of Camelot (MMORPG) or World of Warcraft, I'd just make a macro bound to a key on the keyboard that I'd never use, and then bind a button on the mouse to that key. That made getting off certain spells/abilities in time a lot easier, and so much quicker. Also, I like MX1000's design more than the G5/7 design, but both designs are very comfortable.

I have the mx700, mx900, mx1000, and should be getting the g7 in a few days. I will post back what I think about the controller when I get it. It is going to go great with my G15...

With daily use aside, Im looking for all out raw performance for CSS. I really want the G7 but Im just skeptical about the wireless option. Im using the Mx518 right now and I love it but I guess the quest to get more oomph out of gaming has me searching for more. I know that the G5 will be a step above the mx518 but will the G7 be as good as the G5 but wireless? I guess that is my question. thanks

Yes. But the G5 has the option to adjust the weight and balance if that sort of thing matters to you.

Yeah thats why I chose the G5, that and I have a wireless router, and since it uses 2.4ghz I didn't want to take the chance that it might not work on me, seeing how my 2.4ghz phone already kills my internet.

The G7 mice is great but too bad re-charging the battery takes about 10 hours and my charging station doesn't even work :/

Time to return this to best buy :)

Thanks for the reply but has anyone directly compared these two mice for gaming? Would you say that they are a step above my Mx518?
