I know I read of a reg hack or something that allows you to "watch" XP startup by hitting escape during the boot logo. It then shows the machine loading drivers, etc.

Im currently trying to figure out why XP takes a while to startup on my machine (which it didnt do before I re-ghosted it, presumably I fixed something after the initial Ghost but Ive forgotten what it was).

I also read of a similar hack that shows you whats happening when you log in (instead of "loading personal information", it actually shows you exactly what its doing while its doing it).

If anyone knows of these hacks/procedures, do tell :)

Thanks!

Should be:

right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Edit > add "/sos" (without the quotes) to whichever line windows is using to start (usually, after the noexecute command). When you reboot, you'll see everything that you are talking about, but it flys be pretty quick as it's only the base load stuff. The more complicated driver set gets loaded after all that disappears.

A better way would be to use something like bootvis to monitor and chart each thing as it loads. It should still work with SP2.
