Lockups?

Specs in sig, here's the problem.

If I'm running games, such as Star Wars Galaxies, or BF1942:DC, I'll get lockups randomly. I think they come mostly at peak, so I'm wondering if the psu is the problem. Maybe it's too weak? It is a 350W, and I'm not sure atm what brand, but nothing spectacular. Oh, btw, I'm running a bunch of fans too.

If you think that is the problem, would it work for me too take a spare psu and use it to run stuff like the fans and drives? If so, which wires do I have to jump?
 
PSU problems usually cause reboots rather than lockups. I would clock down that processor a bit and see what happens. Also, what are your temps like?

If you want to use a second psu you need to short the green swire to any red on the mobo connector. If this trick does not work, the ps is non-standard and you should try another.

I'm not positive, but as far as I know, the PS_ON signal (green wire) is active low; this means that it has to be grounded to turn the power supply on. Your best bet would either be to 1) have a switch (not a momentary contact button) that grounds this pin, or 2) to join the two PS_ON signal wires together, so that the mobo grounds them both out. If you were ambitious, you could probably build a pretty simple circuit using a MOSFET that would ground the 2nd power supply's PS_ON signal right as soon as +5V became available on the first one.

That aside, there's a few other things you'll want to try. Download http://www.memtest86.com/ , make the floppy, and let it run overnight. Check your heatsinks, they should be warm, but not hot. If you're overclocking at all, reset everything back to stock frequencies and see if the problem still persists. If so, you can also try reducing the system down to bare minimums. Unplug anything that isn't essential to gaming, and try again. If that fixes it, add the parts back 1 by 1 to try to isolate the problem.

Thought maybe it was something else, still testing. Only had one lockup so far, but I didn't turn it down much either.

You need to short the green to any BLACK on the mobo connector, thus grounding it. You can do this with a paper clip. Sorry for the misleading typo.
