howdy, im wondering if anyone can shed some light on my problem. anytime i play cs source my comp would lock up at a seemingly random time. i could play for 5 mins sometimes and hours another. i tried a bunch of different drivers, the only thing that changed is the lock up itself, with ati it would loop sounds then my monitor would tell me no signal. and with omega it would just simply lock up. im wondering if it's a software problem, but im thinking could it be a hardware problem and the drivers just have different reactions. who knows? cuz i dont.

system specs :
asus a8n-e
amd athlon 3200+ (939)
crucial rendition ddr 512 X 4
sapphire radeon x1300
thermaltake tr2 430w PSU
 
To me it sounds like your video card is either overheating or maybe artifacting/erroring.

Are you at stock clocks? Do you have good case air flow?

Agreed. Sounds like a heat issue. Your card is set to turn off at a certain temp.. you may be reaching that temp.
 
im at stock clock everything. The card has a zalman vga cooler with silver compound and i have 2x 120mm + 1x 90mm fan intake and 1x 120 + the two 80mm in the psu for exhuast, using the armor jr. case. oh and i have a vantec spectrum pci fan. and the card isnt hot to the touch when i check it. i just wish my cheap card could give me temp readouts, maybe that would help determine the cause.

It should give you a readout..
Use the ccc to find out your temps.
 
i cant find any readouts in ccc. i feel i have over sufficient air flow. currently im going to chalk it up to a crappy vid card, im waiting for my x800xl to arrive and if the problem persists then im gonna blame the psu and it's underpowered 12v rail. and when i get a new psu and the problem still persists im gonna set the comp on fire.
 
Definately a overheating issue, I'm going to blame it on the video card....specifically the GPU
 
If you want to find out your temps easily. Download ATi tray tools and then run the hardware monitor with temp enabled. Then play a game for a while.

I cannot remember if the program has a log, but you can check that out. At least then you can see your idle and load temps for that card.
 
according to ati tt gpu temp is not an "available" source for monitoring. ccc actually did it's job today and recovered my vpu from a crash (because it stopped responding to drivers), could that mean it's my card or something else. im not saying i dont believe mrbojangles, im just trying to isolate the problem as far as i can. i guess i'll truely see when my x800 arrives tomorrow. i hope it fares better than this junk x1300.
