Anybody know of good software that can be used to lock down some XP systems? I need the system to pretty much only allow the user to visit facebook, our company website, and twitter. I prefer free but if the software really works well and does not cost much I am not opposed to buying.

If you have xpprofessional, go to run and type in gpedit.msc

This lets you tune and tweak/disable a ton of stuff in the OS. Lets you really lock down a user.

Also, make the user account this person is using a Limited User in the control panel. This blocks them from installing most software.

Hi,

I have used the group policy editor (gpedit.msc) and steady state. Group policy allow you to lock down the system pretty well given the users are not in the Admin/power user groups. I prefer to keep them users / domain users. Steady state is good for keeping the system in a relative clean state. There are limitations and drawn backs to steady state.

As for controlling web access your best option is a proxy server/content filter.
