Load disk image to virtual machine

I created an image of my boot disk using driveimage xml and saved it to a secondary hdd. any thoughts on how to load that image onto a virtual machine that i just created?

i think i can create an ubcd4win dvd and boot to it in the vm and load the image from there. but will i have access to the other hdd in the vm?

also, when i am building the ubcd4win image, will i need to insert the os that i previously used on the disk image (xp) or the os that i am currently using (vista)?

just found out that ubcd4win didnt accept the vista disc, so i guess i will just have to use the xp disc as the source
