Im building my grandma a computer, and basically she wants a weak gaming machine. It needs to run cs:source. No my grandma isnt a gamer, but my cousin who visits likes to play games. All shes going to use it for is email and web brousing. Im building it as cheeply as possible and i found this barebones kit I think the processor would be allrite, but the vid card is a Chaintech GeForce MX4000 64MB Video Card and i am doubtful as to how well thatted preform. I apprecieate your thoughts and opinions, and remember the key is cheap.

it will be fine for what she wants, a GPU and RAM upgrade would help a lot, then she would be set ;) , well for what she wants, the gpu and ram upgrade would help the cousin.

my roomie has a 2.4 p4 cpu 512 ram and a geforce 4 MX 128 meg version

it runs source suprisingly well i think

its playable, if you can live with lower fps

k thanks for the input... dont wanna spend her money and feel bad when it doesnt pan out rite.maybe ill give her 20 for the old card and have her buy a 5200 ultra. Inexpensive yet effective. and thanks again.

if your gona get that barebones system just test it out first before you get the 5200

i dont think it would justify itself since it will become outdated so fast

If you want to retain DX9 compat and get better framerate than that 5200U, try a 9550. A lot of those are downclocked 9600's and respond well to OCing. Make sure you don't get one with a cut-down memory bus (should be 128-bit)

i convinced her to spend a little more money so were going for the radeon 9600, its only $70 and ive heard it doesnt respond too badly to ocing.
