I bought my new computer with the hopes of taking my 4400 to somewhere in the 3.3ghz region, but unfortunately, I am stuck with a measly 2.25. I am wondering if I just got a cpu from a bad batch or something. Also, it has been a while since I have overclocked, so I am hesitant to do anything too extreme. Any suggestions on how to get this further would be great.

Heres what I have

e4300
Abit P35-E motherboard
2 Gigs (2x1gig) Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800
500 Watt antec PSU (if that matters)
CM 690
Scythe Ninja Rev. B cpu fan/heatsink.

try to avoid settings that overclock your ram, run dividers if you must, focus your overclock to your CPU only to determine it's limit.

Second, an overclock almost always requires more voltage. Most of the time it's by trial and error. What I like to do when overclocking is to reference a database of chips and see where the median is regarding voltage and clock speeds, then start as that as a base. Once you have your desired setting, run prime for 8+ hours to determine stability. If it is stable, attempt to scale back the voltage and retest.

It will be a mix of stability and temperatures that will determine your max cpu overclock. Once that is stable, then you can try to get your ram in sync with your cpu's overclock.
