Little confusion

I hope I put this in the correct section since this stems from my interest in Conroe.
I've been an AMD user for quite a long time and haven't really paid a whole lot of attention to intel (the billion chipset types give me headaches). Now that I'm actually considering picking up a Conroe I seem to have run into an interesting problem.
Am I correct in assuming that the new intel chipsets 965/975 support dual vid cards but only xfire?
If true, I would need to wait until nVidia made a chipset that would support the Conroe's to have SLi?
Apologies if this seems a stupid question but after reading for a couple days on all the new intel stuff (even on their website) nothing actually seems to come right out and say that.
I could be blind which wouldn't be a first time.

Keep in mind only the newest revisions of the 975 boards support Conroe, so there's a chance you could end up with an older version if you bought one in the near future. All 965 boards are legit though.

So far none of the dual PCI Express boards that are Conroe compatable officially support SLI. I'd recommend waiting for an Nvidia chipset or for some announcement from Nvidia about compatablity. Compatable motherboards will likely have the SLI logo on the box .

While I'm sort of excited about Conroe, I didn't plan on picking up a board anytime before the official launch. Although, DFI seems to have their board out and word is it got a revision and supports Conroe. But, I'm a little more cautious with my cash so I'll wait until it says in big huge letters somewhere on their site or on the pics at Newegg "THIS FRICKING THING SUPPORTS CONROE!". I'm not quite that excited about Conroe.

These are no stupid questions. Actually, you are well informed as everything you described is correct. As it was stated, only newer i975X based motherboard will support conroe but there are a few new motherboard that were truely made to support it from the ground up, like the Asus P5W DH Deluxe. You should note that P965 based motherboard do not officially support crossfire like their i975X counterpart.

Thanks Para, I was wondering what some of the differences might be between the 965 and 975 boards might be.
Whew, I may just wait until this get's itself sorted out before I start to wade in.
