ok. a little while ago(bout a month and a half) i got my athlon 64 setup

i never ran it on air. went right to watercooling. im using a hydor L30 II(2) pump with a swiftech MCW5000 waterblock. im using a single 80 MM radiator with 3/8"ID tubing and a single 5-1/4" bayres resevoir

my temps are 39*C-40*C at IDLE on my 2800+ with it overclocked to 2.43ghz at 1.55 vCore.
load temps are: 40*c-42*c

should my idle temps be cause for concearn? if i got a cheap generic (i have no money to spend now) single 120MM radiator and mounted it at the bottom of my case would it help?

what rad are you using? what fan are you using? are you cooling anything else with that water loop?

i don't really find temps like that suprising from a single 80mm fan/rad dissipating the combined heat of the pump and CPU.

as for mounting the 120 mm rad.....why not in the top of the case, above your memory? kills multiple birds with one stone, when you put a rad there.

i dont have room at the top of my case (long unmoveable cd-rom)
so i would mount it on the bottom of my case with a filter

my case is raised almost an inch off my desk and i wouldnt be concearned with dust because i would make a filter for it

im using the blue swiftech 80MM radiator with the slim fan off a zalman VGA cooler (its the only one that would fit with my side panel fan on.)

only cooling the CPU

the fan and rad are mounted to one of the rear exaust fan positions, then?

have you looked at having a second fan on the outside of the case helping to pull some more air through the rad?

that zalman doesn't move ALL that much air to begin with, and low-profile fans don't typically do very well blowing against a resistance.......

You only have a delta of 2-3c? I would be delighted with that. Usual dif between idle/load in wc rig is 5-12c. I'm actually kinda wondering if that's a typo?

no typo. its what speedfan reports during prime95 and rthdrbl (i think i spelled that right) tests

39 right now...and when i put those two up (prime doesnt put my cpu at 100%) i get the temps i posted above

ill try adding a second external fan as soon as i find the only other quiet one i have around here....

Yup, I also only have about a 3-4C difference between idle and load temps w/ watercooling. That's with my fans' speed turned way down too.
