any comments on this burner?
concidering getting one of these, found it for $137cdn

theres also the ldw-451s, going for $125cdn

the latter is 4x, but isnt flashable to 8x?

both are dvd +/-

another question, what exactly is the difference between the 2? if i was to burn mpegs for example, which should i use? how about isos of games for example?

thx.

1) Good drive. Pick it up if you want.

2)451 and 851 are the same drive, different EEPROM and firmware. If you want, PM me and I can point you to the 451->851 mod.

3)As I said, both drives are the same, hardware-wise, and will work the same in burning ISOs. Their CD-R speeds are 40X.

about the iso's, i shouldve pointed out that theyre 4gigs each
my question was if i should use dvd-r or dvd+r to burn them.
im not up to date with the difference between the two.

thanks.

ygpm also btw.

Sorry for a bit of thread hijacking:D but is there any diffrence between 811 and 851 ?

No, supposedly Lite-On couldn't produce enough of the drives so they had to have help with the manufacturing and the end product is the 451S and 851S. There may be differing stories, but generally speaking, they are the same.

No they're not. The PUH (Pick up head )on the 451/851 differs from the one on the 401/411/811, hence the 5 in the model name. This means that the 451/851 are incompatible with the 401/411/811 firmware.

You can use either -R or +R discs. They are just the 2 competing standards of DVD-Recordable media. Go for whichever of the 2 standards is cheaper in your area.
