Lite-On Compatibility Problems

Has anyone else noticed a compatibility problem with Audio CDs created with a Lite-On burner (specifically the LTR-48246 and the LTR-52246)? I've got two here and both make Audio CDs that only seem to work in about half of the devices I try them in. None seem to work in my girlfriend's stereo, portable, or notebook and most skip like mad in my portable as well. CDs made with my older PlexWriter 16/10/40A play without any problems.

Anyway, even if no one else has these problems, I'm throwing these pieces of crap in the trash and going back to Plextor (I've owned two Plextor drives, a 4x SCSI drive and the 16/10/40A, neither ever had any problems, at least not until the caddy loading motor in the 4x SCSI drive went toes up after about 350 burns). Everyone here may swear by Lite-On (or at least they did when I bought these drives) but I've had nothing but problems with compatibility on data and audio discs. I guess you really do get what you pay for.
 
I've been using various LiteOn drives for the past 5 years or so and have not had any problems with Audio CDs. My best guesses would be:

1) You're using crappy media. I've always had phenomenal luck with Fuji 80min discs (~500 burned, no probs).
2) You need a firmware update.
3) You are burning in a newer write mode not supported by some very old readers.
4) Your burner is a pos. All companies have the occasional lemon. :(

1. I've tried both Sony and Imation media, both show the same problems. I'll pick up some Fuji discs and give them a try but I don't expect any better.
2. Both drives are using the newest firmware.
3. I'm writing at 4x. I've tried both DAO and DAO/96. The same modes that the Plextor doesn't have a problem with.
4. It's two burners that have this problem. Two different models bought 2 months apart.
 
The burners might be lemons. I've went through 4 Liteon Burners so far... (provided I've burned over 30k cds, :) )

But i would always recommend liteon. Also have you though it might be a software issue with your windows install or something to that nature?
 
I've noticed that some CD players have problems with CD's that were burned at high speed.
I think Plextor Limits thier CDR's to 24x for Audio CD's because of this.

I've got the Lite-On 52x32x52 and I usually burn at 48x and my Rockford Fosgate deck plays most of the tracks fine, but the higher number tracks seem to more prone to skipping than the lower number tracks. don't know if it's deck related or burner related.
 
Try Taiyo Yuden discs.. they are the best for media compatibility. And hey WS6.. reduce your sig,dude!

The two Lite-On burners are in two different machines. Both running Windows XP Pro, one with Nero 6, the other with Easy CD Creator 6. Both make crappy audio discs. In addition, the box with Nero gets reinstalled pretty frequently (it's my development box and the first versions on my code aren't always stable).

The speed shouldn't be a problem seeing as how I burn the audio discs at 4x (the slowest speed supported by the Lite-On drives). That does, however, sound like the same problem I'm having. The discs that do work seem to get worse as you progress through the disc.
 
When I get some extra cash, I plan on getting another MP3 deck for the car. It's a much better solution for mobile media than a regular CD player becuase of the amount of songs you can put on a disc which keeps you from having to keep swapping CD's while driving.
MP3 head unit with an MP3 changer is the second ultimate setup, first being a PC or Ipod type device with a huge hard drive.
