lite-on 16x burner only does 8x

[Simpson5774]

Ok I have two lite-on SHW-160P65 dvd burners, and a mad-dog dvd burner which according to what ive read, has the same internals as the lite on burner in question.

both of these burners have the same specs, the lite-on will only burn 16x dvds at 8x (nero 7.9.something) but the mad dog will burn 16x dvds at 12x (still not 16)

Ive had all of these burners for over a year and a half, and they have done their job well, except for the fact that they dont do 16x

I'm wondering, is there some kind of firmware update for these burners, and or does anybody else have the same problem?

I had the same problem with a different drive.

There were a few suggestions in this thread, nothing helped my situation though:
