Liquid Metal Thermal Interface Material

Reading instructions says: disconnect your heatsink fan and wc the water lines and let temp reach 100c to "reflow" and allow metal to spread out. Fuck that for the 2-3c drop over as5 or mx2.

It looks good, but $20 for 2 applications is ridiculous. They'd have to offer 5 applications at that price.

i'd like to see a good review of that thing before spending $20!!!

Looks kind of iffy to me, and the "reflow" photos, can you say photoshop? And it doesn't sound any better than Coollaboratory, but Coollaboratory cost less and is more than enough for multiple applications.

i'd prefer a closed loop liquid gallium system using electromagnets (shielded, of course) instead of pumps.

Hell they even have a cut-off graph showing the temperature difference. They can't even be honest with their graphs.

The Coolarlaboratory Liquid Metal Pro is only ~$14 and will do numerous applications. I also netted a 10*+ drop over AS5.

Just don't let this stuff get anywhere near aluminum.

10c drop? Damn. Did you lap beforehand or was it all stock?

I got around a 10C drop also, but much less after lapping, maybe 5C, but seeing as the TIM has even less impact on a lapped CPU and HS I can understand it, but a 5C drop on an already lapped CPU and HS is quite good if you ask me.

Just ordered some Coollaboratory Liquid PRO. My true black is lapped but I'm thinking of also laping the cpu, using the liquid pro and doing the penny mod.

After lapping and everything was done, I tried out the penny mod, I didn't have any luck with it, but my temps are great. On a side note, you might want to go to walmart/hardware store and pick up one or two of the foam paint brushes, the real small touch up kind, I find using them the best when spreading out the Liquid Pro, some people use q-tips but I find that they leave "hairs" in the TIM and its just a PITA to get them out. Go easy on it, it does not take much at all to cover the IHS and the layer should be super thin, if you tip the chip from side to side there should not be enough to "run" to the other side, you will understand when you get it on, however sometimes it is easier to put on allot (to get it to cover) and then suck up the extra, also I find heating the chip with a hairdryer first helps also, as the liquid seems to not like to stick to cold metal. YMMV

I wouldn't recommend Q-tips or foam brushes. The BEST thing you can use is those very fine artist's paint brushes. They are cheap, work better, and won't leave anything behind.

Yea I'm gonna search around my house for some. Worst case scenario I'll just use plastic wrapped around my finger.

I have tired the artist paint brushes with the Liquid Pro but just pushed it around, or got it all in the bristles. But, whatever works best for you.

Got the paste, did the penny mod and altogether from cleaning old as5 to remouting took about 30 minutes. Working good so far and temp is 2c lower on idle and load 3c. Let's see what it's like after 48 curing.
