I'm trying to figure out how to run two HDD with differing OS's and have a smooth way to select a drive at boot up, be it through BIOS or another prompt. Currently I'm switching between them by putting the desired drive as primary master, but there has got to be an easier way...Through BIOS I'm able to select which device to boot from, but it chunks the devices by optical drives, hard drives, floppy, removal (etc..), any insight would be lovely.

you will have to install a 3rd party boot loader. Basically...
Hook up all drives, install Windows first... Install linux 2nd, use linux's boot loader, all the modern distro's are very good about picking up a Windows installation and adding it to their boot loader (Lilo or Grub are 2 very popular ones).

I did set up the Linux drive first on this Mobo, but am running devices through here as a test-run/teaser while I wait for my new system to come in...talking about the linux boot loader though..I'm running the latest redhat and did see the GRUB loading up when placing the Win drive as master and linux as slave...but after letting it run for awhile got some "out of memory" error...I'm guessing this will resolve with the newer system. Anyhow, thanks again for your time and help.

i set up my second computer to have a dual-boot between WinXP and SuSE Linux (each on their own HD), and just installed the Linux bootloader on a floppy. that way, if the floppy is in the drive, it will boot Linux, and if it's not, it will boot WinXP.

Very true, you can use a floppy as a boot loader. However, I dislike floppies (personal opinion) and I find the bootloader on my HDD much more convenient and quick.
If you install your dual boot correctly, you'll be given an option as to which OS to boot into everytime. No need for anything third party. You can also buy a hardware solution that let's you flip a switch as to which drive is the master and which is the slave. TigerDirect used to sell them for $15, but I haven't seen them for a while.
true, but if you ever decide to format one drive or the other, it screws up the bootloader of the remaining OS....by having a removable bootloader, you can format one HD without having to do anything at all to the other one...but it's all just personal preference.....djnes said:
